aswOfferTool.exe Application Error

Since I updated Avast Free I keep on receiving the aswOfferTool.exe Application Error each single time I restart my Windows 7 and also when I change my location in the Avast window sometimes. I previously also uninstalled Chrome and installed Firefox instead, just in case this could be relevant.

I tried everything I could find in the net, reinstalled Avast, repaired it and tried several recommended repair tools as CCleaner, Auslogics BoostSpeed and WinThruster. The problem remains and drives me crazy. I did not want Chrome to be installed and unchecked it during the installation process where it was offered, and I did not want to upgrade to paid version which I was offered several times.

The Exception Illegal Instruction
An attempt was made to execute an illegal instruction.
(0xc00001d) occured in the application at location 0x5d1c4472.
Click OK to terminate the program.

Please can someone tell me how to get rid of this annoying error message?

Hi Eddy. Thanks for your tip. I had already uninstalled WinThruster via Control Panel. So I guess now its too late to use this uninstaller. I hope I don’t have any more leftovers of WinThruster.

Do I need the registered version of Max Uninstaller to try it? And how much would that be? I cannot see any price.

Ok. Im through. I uninstalled Avast in the safe mode with Avastclear. Everything was gone after the restart. Then I reinstalled Avast. After a system restart the same error happened again. And now?

I reinstalled Windows 7 with formatting the hd. No more aswOfferTool.exe error until I installed avast. It already showed before the first restart.

aswOfferTool.exe is part of Avast.

Do you have anything installed that prevents it from running, HIPS (stand alone or part of a FW) perhaps or a task manager?

I had office 2010 installed before to have access to my serials list,the driver software for my wifi stick and acronis for the first backup. All things I always had installed even long before the first problem with avast. They used to work smooth side by side for eternities.

Athlon XP only supports SSE instructions, not the later extentions.
Perhaps the avast code is inadvertently attempting to execute an instruction not supported by
these CPUs ?

Not sure to whom this is addressed, my previous post is directly to the quoted user Commodore, he reports the OS in his first post as win 7. So I would have thought that the CPU would have been later than that. The main thing is to find the source.
