I have had a few users who experienced the following error:
“Outlook experienced a serious error the last time the add-in c:\Program Files\Avast\aswoutxt.dll was loaded. Would you like to disable the plug-in?”
Yes | No
Not sure where this error is coming from. Anybody seen this before?
Using Outlook 2003 with all the latest updates.

Searching the board for aswoutxt.dll won’t help?
Since “aswoutxt.dll” returns only this post then no it won’t help.
Even searching “aswoutxt” only returns this and one other post… neither with a comment on (discounting yours).
Googling however suggests “ashoutxt.dll” instead and points me to http://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=222&nav=0
Which at least is something to try.
