Hi this will remove Avast from the system, including the setup file which may have been corrupted

Download the attached Fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that
Then try a normal boot

oh hallelujah. seems to be booting properly. logged in and am at desktop

strange thing is the log doesnt seem to be attached? or has it saved over ‘fixlist’?

attached fixlog in case

OK there was a fair bit of adware there that need removing … Would you like me to continue to clear that ?

If so :

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.

[*]Close all open programs and internet browsers.
[*]Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
[*]Click on Scan.
[*]After the scan is complete click on “Clean”
[*]Confirm each time with Ok.
[*]Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
[*]Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
[*]You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.

THEN

Download OTL to your Desktop
Secondary link

[*]Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.

[*]Select All Users
[]Select LOP and Purity
[
]Under the Custom Scan box paste this in

netsvcs
BASESERVICES
%SYSTEMDRIVE%*.exe
c:\program files (x86)\Google\Desktop
c:\program files\Google\Desktop
dir “%systemdrive%*” /S /A:L /C
/md5start
rpcss.dll
/md5stop
CREATERESTOREPOINT

[*]Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
[*]When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
[*]Attach both logs

right - took a while to scan there!

all three logs attached.

thanks very much for this mate - you’re a gent.

Aha, No Time Zone difference for you guys (Maybe an hour or two)…

sorry - what may be an hour or two?

Sorry, spoke aloud. The time zone difference between you and Essex.

OK I see that McAfee is still installed, has it expired ?

If it has you will need to remove it using the McAfee tool http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

How is the computer behaving now ?

Avast will need to be re-installed

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

Run OTL

[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/OTL_Fix.GIF

:Commands
[CREATERESTOREPOINT]

:Commands
[resethosts]
[emptytemp]
[Reboot]

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

i assume mcaffee has expired - but am not sure how i would know? apologies for my ignorance

OPen McAfee and if it has expired it should give a notification of some sort. Never used it myself

ok- got rid of mcaffee, now running the OTL fix.

havent reinstalled avast yet.

the computer is running well.

Yep I used FRST to take out most of the malware, AdwCleaner got some more and OTL run a tidy up

You may need to run a disc defrag after I remove the tools

Let me know when you are happy and I will tidy up

very happy - reboot has happened and notepad open with a log - should i paste it?

Aye why not… We will then see how much junk was on it

here it is

Total Files Cleaned = 3,852.00 mb
Just a bit :)

Let me know how it is once Avast is installed and if all is well I will tidy up

should i install it the same way as i did yesterday? bit concerned about corrupting her computer again? anything i should do differently?

Now that McAfee has gone there should be no problem

Use one of these links

Download the correct version of Avast
Avast Free
Avast Pro
Avast Internet Security
Avast Premier

brilliant - avast installed and running a scan. all seems to be fine.
