aswrvrt.sys Windows 7 64 bit System hang

Please help - Windows 7 64-bit computer hangs at the aswrvrt.sys -

I tried all of the other recoveries/repairs offered by the system.

Here is where I’m at now: On a working computer, I downloaded rufus, ran it and copied the windows 7 64 repair disk to usb along with FRST. I then used the USB drive into the non-booting computer and have attached the resulting FRST.txt file for help.

thanks,
julie

Initially I will do a registry backup. After the fix has run could you run startup repair at least twice

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Start FRST as before and press Fix
Once it has completed then restart

Wow - you are pretty awesome. Thank you for your speedy reply. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude.

I copied the file to my usb that contains FRST. plugged usb back to non-booting computer. Ran FRST, clicked FIX. Saw the message that the fixlog.txt was saved or downloaded. Ran startup repair twice with USB still in non-booting computer. Removed usb and put back in working computer.

Attached is Fixlog.txt that was result.

(I have a strong tendency to get distracted, so i am including all of my actions in case there is an user error as i go through this process)

OK this one will totally disable Avast I do not believe it to be the cause but worth checking

If the reboot fails could you let me know which file it stops at

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Start FRST as before and press Fix
Once it has completed then restart

Argh, it looks like you are correct. It now stops at CLASSPNP.SYS

Do you have any recommendations?

Do you have the windows 7 disc ?

Yes - I have the Windows 7 Professional Boot and Restore disc that came with the computer.

OK for XP read windows 7

  1. To start the Recovery Console directly from the Windows XP CD you would do the following:

[*]Insert the Windows XP cd in your computer.[*]Restart your computer so you are booting off of the CD.[*]When the Welcome to Setup screen appears, press the R button on your keyboard to start the Recovery Console.[*]The Recovery Console will start and ask you which Windows installation you would like to log on to. If you have multiple Windows installations, it will list each one, and you would enter the number associated with the installation you would like to work on and press enter. If you have just one Windows installation, type 1 and press enter.[*]It will then prompt you for the Administrator’s password. If there is no password, simply press enter. Otherwise type in the password and then press enter.[*]If you entered the correct password you will now be presented with a C:\Windows> prompt and you can start using the Recovery Console.

  1. Type map and press enter.
It will give you the drive letters.
Note down the letter of you CD-ROM.
If it is a letter other than E you should replace the letter E with your CD drive letter when applying the expand command later on if the command is needed to be applied.

Type following commmands, pressing Enter after each one.

[*]ren c:\windows\system32\drivers\atapi.sys atapi.old
(It will returns to the prompt again without notification)[*]copy c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386\atapi.sys c:\windows\system32\drivers
(If you get a notification “1 file(s) copied” you don’t need to do the next expand command and go to exit command. But if you get notification that the file doesn’t exist proceed with expand command)[*]expand e:\I386\atapi.sy_ c:\windows\system32\drivers
(You should be notified that the file expanded)[*]exit

You may remove the CD or let Windows boot normally.

awesome! after 3 days of not booting, i’m now looking at my desktop.

thank you so much!

Glad to hear, it appears to have been a windows file at fault. You will need to re-install Avast as I have broken it

Hello, I am sorry I have the same problem but I cannot access my computer directory so can you tell me what I should do ?

Thank you so much.
