aswrvt.sys hanging on bootup

Hi,
Hope someone can help. My XP laptop recently ground to a halt and then wouldn’t reboot normally or into safe mode. I’ve run OTLPENet and attached the frst.txt as suggested in another thread.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi initially we will try a restore point

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same locations as FRST
Run FRST and press Fix
On completion try a normal boot

Hi essexboy,
Thanks for the quick reply.
Tried your suggestion and it’s still hanging. Disk activity light is solidly on.
I’ve attached the fixlog. Didn’t look good.
Thanks for your help.

OK whilst I create the next fix try the following:

From the Reatogo desktop run a command prompt and type in the following :

chkdsk c: /r

On completion try a reboot, if it does not work then I shall post another fix

The fix if chkdsk fails :

Download fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press FIX
Reboot on completion

Hi essexboy, ran the chkdsk and it looks like I may have a fubar’d HDD. Lots of “deleting orphan file record segment” errors. When the chkdsk finished I rebooted and it now hangs on a black screen. It also won’t boot off the CD any more. I checked the BIOS and it should be booting off the optical drive first and it was working prior the chkdsk.
I think I may just bin the hard disk and start from scratch unless you think there is an alternative option.

TIA

Nope it does sound like the HDD has gone south I am afraid

Thanks for your assistance. Luckily, I keep very little local only these days.

I think this will prompt my first venture into the Linux world, yay!
