Awhile back I posted a thread about getting BSODs with said file in the subject as the culprit. Since then I have gotten a couple BSODs. I made sure the computer gave me a full dump instead of just a minidump. I’m running version 4.8.1229. I have the minidump and full dump zipped (392MB :o ). Where can I upload such a large file so someone could take a look at them? Here’s the Save Dump from Event Viewer, too.
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0xb4dd7636, 0xb2bfbc68, 0x00000000). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP.
You can use Alwil FTP server as a second way to transfer only big files. Upload them to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming (please, note that you won’t have READ access to the ftp server, just write - so you won’t even be able to see what you’ve just uploaded).
Note that uploading the files to FTP, without additional contact, is not a good idea. The FTP is not monitored - so unless we are expecting some files, we won’t really see them. Besides, finding a folder of randomly-names files on FTP doesn’t really say much about them.
I would have zipped them before but that was before I knew to have my computer save a full memory dump instead of a minidump. I have the files ready to go, but I am trying to find one of those file sharing sites that allow 400 MB or more. I’d prefer not to upload to the FTP server if that means you guys don’t have a way of really monitoring it. Is there a file sharing site that anyone knows of that I can upload this big 400 MB file to? I tried Quicksharing, but for some reason when I click Upload it doesn’t upload.
If you post a message here on the forum (that you uploaded the file to the FTP, and possibly under which name) - that should be enough. Tech was trying to say that if you upload the file silently, without letting anybody know, it will probably go unnoticed (and if somebody notices it anyway, he wouldn’t know what case it’s connected with and what to do about it).
I don’t recommend uploading the file to a public site - after all, it’s a dump of your computer memory, so it might contain some personal info.
Well… the only solution will be sending this file by email to Vlk… but he will blame me with this suggestion… he will receive such a huge file in his inbox… impossible… Igor, what do you suggest then?
Uploading it to our FTP, of course… nobody from outside can access the file there.
I was trying to say that I don’t recomment uploading it to a public file sharing site, as JayC suggested.
I am currently uploading the file using Internet Explorer 6. The file is in Zip format and includes the minidump as well as the full memory dump. The filename is BSOD 9-26-08. Right now IE is saying there is 2 hours and 20 minutes remaining. To make sure I am doing it right, I opened the FTP link with IE6 and then dragged and dropped the file into IE6. Is that correct?
Interesting. I have to say that the system was in quite a messy state when the crash occurred.
Could you please try running memtest, to verify that it’s actually not a hardware issue?
