I have been running the professional version of Avast on my laptop successfully now for about 5 months. I updated Avast today at the programs prompting and upon reboot my system is stopping with a green screen of death blaming the file: aswsp.sys
What do you need from me to help solve this problem?
Here is some basic information on my system:
Gateway Laptop model 8510GZ
Windows XP Home v5.1.2600 SP3 Build 2600
2GB Ram
10 GB free on my hard drive
Thanks for any help.

This problem is not random or rare for my computer; it has effectively shut down my computer because I get the green screen of death on every boot. I checked the link to the other “similar” thread, but I’m not getting a BSOD; I am getting a GSOD at boot up which prevents my system from booting into the OS unless I go in through Safe Mode which is of little use.
Any ideas?
Thanks

avast version…?
Other security related software…?
Prior to the update I was using AIS Version: 6.0.1125
Other security software installed: StopZilla & Malewarebytes. I just removed Spybot S&D via Safe Mode with no change in the boot problem.
Here is more info on the GSOD:
The message in the GSOD regarding aswsp.sys says:
“The driver unloaded without cancelling pending operations”
Does this give you a clue to the issue?
How do I clean this up? I already tried booting to “Last Known Good Configuration” and I continue to get the same problem during boot.
Thanks for any help,

After removing STOPzilla the system boots fine now. I did not
uninstall AIS. Is there a known issue between AIS and STOPzilla?
Thanks for your help!
