After booting into my laptop I receive a message that says:

Your PC/Device needs to be repaired.

The operating system couldn’t load because a critical system driver is missing or contains errors.

File:\WINDOWS\System32\aswVmm.sys
Error code: 0xc000007b

I do not have a recovery disk and cannot go into safe mode, after googling for about an hour, I have found this is an Avast! Folder,

Can someone guide me through what to do?

No, it is a Windows folder.
It is a (old?) avast file though.

My computer is a 64bit,
And is this even still in date for W10 stuff?

I am checking on this for you and will return shortly.

For the 64 bit Windows 10, please do the following:

Download the following three programmes to your desktop :

  1. Rufus

For 64bit systems
2. Windows 8.1 64bit RC - link to this sent to you in a PM
3. Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64

Insert the USB stick Then run Rufus

Select the ISO file on the desktop via the ISO icon. (This is the ISO file from the link sent via PM.)

Press Start Burn

Then copy FRST to the same USB

Insert the USB into the sick computer and start the computer. First ensuring that the system is set to boot from USB

Select the language on this screen and keyboard on the next

Select Command prompt

At the command prompt type the following :

The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
Select “Computer” and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
In the command window type e:\frst64.exe and press Enter
Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
The tool will start to run.
When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.

Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please copy and attach / paste it to your reply.
