I can not recall when did I approve an app to spend all my prepaid money sending sms like crazy without my knowledge. Personally only got one location notification from Avast, but the app send like 30+ sms messages!!?? All in roaming and so spend my whole prepaid money and left me without possibility to make or take a call neither to recharge my prepaid account since I am on vacation!? Now dear Avast. I will kindly ask you to refund me what your app has stolen from me or else I will contact my lawyer as soon as I return home and take care people are aware of what can happen to them with your app installed on their devices! This is completley inacceptable!! >:(
You approved it by installing anti-theft and accepting the license terms for it.
Roaming regulations:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Union_roaming_regulations
Check if your provider didn’t charged you too much.
If they did, they should give back what you paid too much.
Information about the sms function/options:

avast didn’t steal anything from you.
They do not get paid if they receive a sms from you or anyone else.
Approved what??? Are you joking?? In a book of regulation there is a regulation which tells that they are sending up to 5 SMS messages a day for no reason at all (since I did not get any notification or whatever…)?!? You are not serious about that right?! A SMS in Roaming cost me 50 cents dude! See the list in my attachment (which is not complete) and see how much money of my money they spend dude!! ARE THEY OUT OF THEIR MINDS???
No, I’m not joking.
You changed the simcard which makes avast believe that the phone is possibly stolen and it starts sending out warning sms’s as it should do.
I nor avast can help it that a sms is costing you 50 cent.
It was your own decision buying that card.
You could have disabled the option to send sms’s but you didn’t.
You also could have added that simcard to avast so it wouldn’t send sms’s.
As you can see in the table on the wikipedia website, roaming cost for 1 sms is 6 cents.
That means if you have to pay 50 cents, your TelCo is charging you 44 cents per sms.
Nothing avast can do about that, it was your own choice when you bought the card.
I see now this is the wrong place to complain! But anyway: My phone was not stolen my sim card not replaced there was absolute no reason for app to send up to 4 messages in a row to whom ever tis think was sending messages to… I am insured good, so I will get this money back for quite sure! This was stolen from me due to ridiculous behavior of the app…I am getting it back. And you dear avast employers can go ahead an post another comment how its completely normal to pay 40 euro in two weeks without phone being stolen or modifications or whatever changes made to the phone other but updated the app on the vacation… So please don’t “say” it’s normal…, don’t try to cover the bugs and the problem more you just got with me getting my money back for sure! If not else I will be so loud on the court, papers will write about my warning about using your applications for a long time! Your app spend all my money on my prepaid card in middle of my vacations, living me there unable making calls… No my dear Avast employes, that’s not normal and that is not what you can put in any of the end user Licenses…
Again you are wrong.
I’m not a avast employee, just a experienced user of their software.
It is not my or anybodies else fault if you don’t understand how things are working.
You are the only one who can change that.
Read up on the avast website on how the application is working and learn.
Sending those sms’s is not a bug at all, it is how the application is supposed to work.
And as I said and as Lisandro’s posted link shows, you could have disabled it but you didn’t.
b.t.w.,
this webboard is not the place to complain.
It is here to help solving problems with the applications and other things.
If you want to complain you should create a ticket.
Already checked what your TelCo has charged you for roaming costs?
I have a feeling they charged you too much.
If so, summit them to give you back what you paid too much.
“It is not my or anybodies else fault if you don’t understand how things are working.”
but you non Avast employer do understand how thinks are working right? And its normal someones prepaid card get emptied due to wild sms sending without any justified or any reason at all right? All I have to do is to understand how thinks are working and everything is gonna be just fine right? How old are you??? Can you please stop replying on my problem…if you are bored go do something useful cos this now is NOT USEFUL at all. Only to Avast…but you are not their employee so what is it you are doing here again??
I’ve just returned from holiday to find I’ve been charged £16 ($26.54) in roaming texts, my provider charges £1 per roaming SMS. I’d have been charged more but thankfully i only turned my device on for a few minutes. In my case SMS were being sent every few seconds. It made me feel sick thinking about what would have happened if i had left my mobile turned on. I’m not on a pre paid plan, i pay monthly, so the texts would have gone on and on and i would have been made bankrupt.
I realise i authorised this to happen, but didn’t realise the texts would repeat continuously every few seconds. I do think maybe there could be a clearer warning of this.
I’ve now removed Avast anti theft as i can’t risk this happening again
but you non Avast employer do understand how thinks are working right?Yes, I do understand things. When I see a application that I believe is something for me to use, I read the manual, websites etc. to learn what it can/can't do, how it supposed to work etc.
without any justified or any reason at all right? There is a reason for it as you would have known if you had read how the application is working/functioning.
How old are you???Again, you failed to read. You could have easily looked it up in my profile.
Tracy,
I assume you mean GBP (There are 6 countries that uses the Pound).
If you have traveled within the EU and your provider has charged you 1 GBP roaming cost, it is more than they are allowed and you should ask them to pay back what you have paid to much.
If you traveled outside the EU, it depends on the country you where how much they where allowed to charge you. If this is the case, I sure would look-up the maximum roaming costs for that country and check if you weren’t charged to much.
There was no need to uninstal.
Simply disabling the sms sending would have prevented it.
It is not the car manufacturers fault if you get a ticket for speeding.
It’s 1 GBP. We were in Cuba. It was my fault and I will pay the roaming charges.
Uninstalling was a knee jerk reaction to make sure no further SMS were sent. I may reinstall the app at some stage as it does it’s job well, but i reiterate, it needs to be made clearer that this can happen if the device is left powered on.
