This post/thread is to warn others. I do this because I have seen it and it has been an issue in the past. And, it appears to still be. That being…
I clicked on the renew now tab/button from the Avast Premier home page on my computer. When the window opened I unchecked the auto-renewal box to not auto-renew. Went through the rest of the painless renewal process and wa-la, I’m good for another year.
But then I remembered the problems in the past and thought, ya’ know what, I better check and make sure. So, I logged into my Avast account and clicked on the license tab/button in the drop down box from my account. Another page opens and low and behold, what do I see. A tab/button/option to CANCEL AUTO-RENEWAL. So, even though I unchecked the box before entering my payment info, and checking every step of the way to make sure there wasn’t another box I had or needed to uncheck, or that it didn’t say auto-renewal enabled, and even though I unchecked the one and only box I did see, it did no good as it enrolled me in and enabled auto-renewal anyhow.
So folks, if you do not want your credit card to be automatically charged at the end of each license term, and if you don’t want to be enrolled in auto-renewal, double and triple check that you weren’t, even though you unchecked the damn box. I mean, why have a box to uncheck if it doesn’t do any good to uncheck it?
So, from here on in, if I’m enrolled in it or it auto renews this this time next year, I’ll know someone is playing games and report the charge as fraudulent. Because, well, it will be because I not only un-enrolled and disabled the option, I did not authorize the charge. So folks, beware.
Sorry if I seem to be and I’m not trying to be a dick, but I hate it when crap like this happens because for me, it comes down to scruples, morals and most of all, business ethics.
