Hi,
I have been using Avast for a couple of years and have never had any problems. Now I cannot get updates. To the best of my knowledge nothing has changed on my system.

I have removed Avast through Control panel, rebooted, removed it with ASWCLEAR, re-installed and still have no luck. I hope that someone here might have some suggestions.

I captured the error report for the auto update and will include it here. My system is:

Win XP SP2
Asus A8n SLI Deluxe
AMD X2 4200
2 Gig Ram

Internet is ADSL

You’re not being able to download servers.def file :cry:

Try if you can download servers.def from here: http://files.avast.com/iavs4x/servers.def
Save it to C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\setup folder
Start the update again. ::slight_smile:

Checked the link and I get a text string listing the servers but no option to download. Can not copy/paste into “Avast/setup”

Also checked the file that you linked to against the “servers” file already in the setup folder of AVAST. They are identicle.

Into the firewall settings, the following programs should be allowed to connect:

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\avast.setup (avast! Update executable)

Don’t need rights to connect:

Since 2 or 3 days, I have exactly the same problem. I have this message (in french sorry!) “Connexion impossible au serveur” when I want to make automatic or manual update.
The server.def file is the same that you listed.
I have not firewall and I used Avast from several months without problems!

The problem is for automatic and manual updates.
First, I downloaded from your server and changed the file servers.def
Secondly, I repaired Avast from my config panel.
It is always present… :-\

I joint the log of my last test.

And what do you get if you delete the servers.def file?
Which firewall are you using?

I have not firewall software. I have the firewall of the router but I have not this problem on an other PC connected also to this router.
Without file servers.def (moved temporaly in other folder) it’s identical.

I feel like doing to uninstall and re-instal the program. May be the last version (v4.7) has been corrupt during installation of it?

But can you connect this computer through a browser, for instance?
If you ping avast webpage, what do you get? Run
ping www.avast.com

Version 4.7 should work fine…

You can download servers.def from here: http://files.avast.com/iavs4x/servers.def
Save it to C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\setup folder
Start the update again.

I have been fighting with this issue for a couple of weeks now. Have tried everything that has been suggested to no avail. I have loaded a different AV which updates with no problem. I would like to see a workable solution but until then I need some sort of protection that stays current.
