Auto Update

??? Hi
For the past few days I keep recieving A message that there is Error doing auto update. There is nothing telling me what is wrong. If I do manual update it says that I’m already up to date, which I’am. I look’t in my log and it says Account: Default, Application: 4294797757,
Description: Function Supercopyfile () has fail. Return code 00000005.
Can I be help’t.

Error 00000005 means Access is denied if I’m not wrong.
Do you use a firewall? Which one? Which is your OS?

???I’m use winme v4.9 with sygate personal firewall pro v5.5. I have tried to open port 80 using what i think is all of adresses for advast. I have check my firewall traffic logs and it is allowing out going connection. Do avast use use port 80 for incoming and out going, What are the addresses you use? This very strange I have not made any changes to my firewall. Maybe I have to unistall avast and reinstall ???.

You have to open ports 25 (Outbound Mail), 110 (Inbound) and 143 (Imap protocol).
I dont know which ones are used for update... Ill see if I can discover.
But, as you can see, it`s not an avast trouble but Sygate :stuck_out_tongue:

I have had some problems with Sygate in which the logs state that permission is granted, but in fact, the application is blocked.
Even when I checked “allow all”, the condition remained.

Try shutting down the firewall only while attempting to update.
If the update is successful, then you will need to reinstall Sygate.

At least this method should isolate whether the problem is Avast or Sygate.

I am having the same problem using sygate…but the problem only occurred when I got the new version of avast. I shut my firewall down and proceded to update but it still says Im up to date…yet there have been no up dates since the 21st of April and that was when I had the old version. In the log file it has error messages saying failed to download.

 Thanks to all who have answer this lowly soul . I will try all the ports thats been given to me. One thing, I did not have this problem also until the last version update. I have been getting all updates with no problems. Sometimes 2 x a day. But I will try those ports, again thanks. :-*

My problem was sygate not avast, when I uninstalled sygate the updates started working again. And now that I have reinstalled sygate everything is working perfectly.

The problem with Sygate is that it doesn’t manage well programs update. You’ll have to reinstall at each new version of avast !! You should try the free Kerio firewall. I never had any problem with it.

zonealarm too

 To all who have answered THANKS!
Come to think on it When I have had any trouble with connections When I did a clean unistall then reinstall sygate all was fine. So I will try this and get back to you guys. If this is the case I will bring this issue to sygate. Some times you get so use to a program that been so good to you, when things go wrong you tend to panic and don’t stop to think. That is why I come to this Of many forums for answers. With computers every day is a not writen in stone. I have learned alot each and every day. And because of this I have become A computer junkie. AGAIN THANKS ;). I will return and let you know how it turned out.

;D Whats up?
Heres what happened, After recording from my firewall logs I noted up to six addresses for advast. Here they are 66.98.166.72,67.15.0.83,195.70.130.34,216.98.166.72,216.127.72.135,217.31.49.244 they were logged on auto as well as manual updates. What seems to be happening is that sygate is fine with updates for the current Avast versions but somtimes it seems that when a new update comes up if the address changes and it was not added to sygates logs it gets confused. so here is what I did. I removed Avast’s program signiture from sygates logs. As a matter of fact I removed all my trusted programs then rebooted. Then I access the internet with each and every trusted program and when sygate ask if I should allow or deny Put them back in back in. Also to make sure that Avast was not corrupted I did a clean uninstall. I then went to Advasts download site and downloaded. After installing it and rebooting. Avast did a update with no problem
All is well in the world again. Did anyone find out which address is used for updating and what ports are used beside remote port 80 during downloads? Because if it is changeing time to time I think this is what in confuseing sygates logs. So from now on when ever I do any updates I will have to reset the logs. I will keep a eye on this and get back to you to let you know If I seceeded.
