Why is it when, I have updates set to ask before installing, the software lies to me saying I need to update definitions but when I run update it says all definitions are up to date? I have purchased a year of clean-up along with my anti-virus and do not want to lose my money but it seems your pruduct is trying to trick me into turning on auto update. Why would you do that?

Why are you setting to update definitions “ask before installing”? Update definitions should be set to always “automatic update”. New malware evolve everyday and are discovered everyday so antivirus software need to be on up of it. You can set to update program either automatic update, ask when update is downloaded, ask when an update is available, manual update. It’s up to you.

Try an avast! repair:
XP - Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and select Repair, click next and follow.

Vista, win7 or later - Control Panel, Programs & Features, uninstall a program, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and select Repair, click next and follow.

You may need to reboot after the repair.

This has in the past resolved this out of sync issue between reported and actual VPS version.

Staticguy, The reason is because i reboot my pc several times in a day and avast always goes through the update which takes too long. It will do this even if I updated 10 minutes prior.

DavidR, Thank you David I will try this.
