Are you aware of a software program / online service which support free check of all drivers in use of pc?
Is auto updating supported, if so that would be great!
NEVER trust a 3rd party software to update your drivers. Not trust Windows Updates. If you have an AMD video card go to the AMD website and check your driver version. If you have a Dell computer go to Dell.com and check for updates. Drivers only need to be updated when one is experiencing issues.
Personally I only ever update a driver if there is a problem with it, it also depends on what that drivers is ?
For me there is no one size fits all solution to this type of thing, updating/changing drivers can seriously impact on your system so there should be a good reason to start updating drivers. Before updating drivers I would suggest you first have a robust backup and recovery strategy (should it go wrong) in the form of drive imaging software that can make an exact copy of a drive/partition that can be restored (nothing like system restore that doesn’t cover everything).
Another thing when updating drivers don’t try to do them all at once, if the dark brown stuff hits the fan it can be difficult to find the culprit. And that is why I wouldn’t use any of these multiple driver update tools.
Are you having a problem with any of your drivers ??? Is something not working properly ??? Unless you can answer yes to those two questions, do nothing. If it isn’t broke, don’t try to fix it!
If the answer is yes: Go to the manufacturers website and get the latest driver from them.
Before you install any driver updates, Create a System Restore Point. (Regardless of where the driver came from.)
Exactly Bob. The only drivers really need constant updating are GPU drivers. Again only if your a gamer. Most video card drivers get updated month to fix frame rates in games or compatibility issues. Other then that “leave it be”.
I agree, sometimes you don’t want to update drivers. I have always stuck with the last driver that was made for the Windows version I’m using and have never had a problem.
Are you a gamer? I take it not or else you would have know what video card you have. Go into device manager and click on the display tab. There you will see the video card your pc has. If its Nvidia go to Nvidia.com. If its an AMD/ ATI go to AMD.com. What pc is is it? If its a Dell go to Dell.com.
It’s that easy. Everything you need to know is right in front of you. If your GPU doesn’t support Open GL 2.1 or higher you need to upgrade your GPU. Drivers won’t fix that.
Is this a desktop or laptop? If its a laptop or a desktop with on board video you cannot upgrade your GPU.
That is in correct Bob. That will only check Microsofts data base and not the manufactures. But it’s very easy to check your driver version and compare it to the ones listed for your hardware on the manufactures website. Microsofts data base is always months behind the manufactures. I have seen several cases where people update there drivers via Windows and there pc becomes unstable after that,
No matter how you look at it the best place to check for driver updates on your computers hardware in the manufactures website. It’s that easy.
But even those are sometimes aimed at the latest and greatest cards out there and will have no benefit for people using older hardware. Sometimes the performance can even drop.
You were never a gamer I take it. I was a pc gamer for years now I just game on my XBOX. When AMD or Nvidia release new drivers it’s mainly to increase FPS. Or because the latest games have driver conflicts. Game manufacture and GPU manufactures work in conjunction with each other.
On the contrary , I am a pretty heavy gamer. The latest AMD driver concentrates it’s improvements on the 7900 series of cards. For people using any of the 6000x series cards, there is little or no benefit. There is also the fact that many of the latest AMD drivers have been to fix problems with multi-gpu setups which I have never had and new Catalyst Application Profiles which have to do with multi-gpus on specific games. Again I have no need for that. Only people who stay on the cutting edge of graphics technology have benefitted from the last couple of releases. I’m a gamer but I’m not a fanatic about it. I play all my games on the laptop listed in my signature. I did update to the latest driver but it made no difference in performance at all so wasn’t really necessary.
