When Avast attempts to run the iAVS Automatic update I recieve this error message “This program has performed an illegal operation and will shut down”
It goes on to say "Avast caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 0167:bff7a3d4.
Any suggestions?
I have AVAST 4.6 home
Build Apr2005(4.6.652)
Try to completely uninstall avast!, reboot, and then reinstall it from the scratch.
Are you sure you don’t have any other antivirus besides avast! installed on your system ? If you had one before, did you completely and properly uninstalled it prior to installing avast! antivirus ?
I hope you are aware of the fact that having 2 or more antiviruses with resident protection active, and all that on the same machine is going to give you nothing else, but trouble.
What’s your OS, what are other security programs you have installed on your system ?
I am running windows98se. I did have Bullguard running through Kazaa but have removed it. I tried to uninstall Avast using the windows control panel add/remove tool and I get the exact same error message. Wierd huh? I had Spybot search & destroy as well as I spyware but removed them as well. Any other way to uninstall Avast? I can’t seem to find an uninstall file. Thanks
Also there is no need to uninstall Spybot and SpywareBlaster… they perfectly work with avast!, actually, you should have them on your system along with avast!
Also, having Ad-aware installed as well, is highly recommended. You don’t have to worry about those programs, you should worry if you have another antivirus installed on your system. Never ever install 2 or more resident antiviruses in the same time on the same machine.
??? Unbelievable, I was able to uninstall Avast but now when I attempt to install I am able to get through to the final install page and at 99% installed I get the exact same error message. Aaarrrrggggghhhhh!!! Don't know what else to do. I have been running Avast Home Edition for the last two and a half years and never a problem. I have no other anti-virus programs running. Any last suggestions before I give up completely? Thanks, Vegassteve
