I just re-downloaded and reinstalled avast free. I had used it before and liked it. I am a bit concerned that there is no (easy) way to schedule a scan. I logged in to buy it, but when I read the fine print I found that it is automatically renewed. That is a no starter. I had problems with Digital River before and refuse to go that route again.
Couldn’t be easier to schedule a scan:
Open the avastUI, Scan Computer, Select the scan you want to run, Quick or Full System Scan > Settings > Scheduling and enter your timings, etc.
I am not aware of any automatic renewal, could you please show me where you see this, please sir!

Thanks for the information. I found that I CAN schedule a scan using your instructions. I had looked in the Forum for this information and all I found there was the necessity of using Windows Scheduler to schedule a scan.

Guthrie, I don’t want to argue with you, but just before you click the final button to order, there is a section in fine print that says the software will automatically be renewed when it expires. Of course you have the option to refuse the auto renewal, but I have had too many unfortunate experiences with Digital River to go that route again.

Those must have been very old topics prior to being able to do it in the Scan settings.
Often a good idea to have a wander round the avast interface to see what can be done.
WOW, you are right, and there was NO option to opt out of Auto Renewal. Thanks for the education. Another great reason to use an avast! Reseller to do the dirty work for you!
jayt: You can refuse the auto-renewal during the purchase by clicking on the text “Renewal: Automatic (More Info)”.

Interesting, that one of your avast resellers didn’t notice this either.
It reads that it is info on automatic renewal. It’s not clear that this is some type of setting that needs buyer intervention. It makes no mention of being opted in for this. Buyers may overlook this due to the fact that if they are not interested in automatic renewal then this does not apply to them. With EasyPass, Backup, and Rescue disk it is obvious. A buyer must add this to the transaction. Why not do this with auto renewal? And why are you automatically opting buyers in for this?
Are you looking for short-term relationships with paying customers? If you start messing with their money then this is a perfect method in destroying these relationships.
Whilst some would be happy with automatic renewal, I fear they are in a tiny minority with the greatest majority against automatic renewal. I remember the fire storms when Norton/Symantec did this automatic renewal credit card charge. But it only became noticeable when the next annual charge was made and caused huge bad feeling.
Why do they need More Information, isn’t it pretty clear what Renewal: Automatic is; this very important fact shouldn’t be opted-in and buried under another layer to opt-out. These pre selected opt-in options are spreading like a cancer.
Things like this must be clear, visible on the main payments page and not be pre-selected opt-in to avoid accidental use or omission resulting in an automatic payment next year.
That really is bad form as we are now seeing the tip of the iceberg (those coming to the forums to question it), with many not bothering to renew this year much less automatic renewal for next year, so you lose out twice.
Wasn’t this auto-renewal feature suppose to be released with the upcoming avast! 8 ?
I have no idea if this is exactly what the case was meant to be or not, but it isn’t something for this particular forum.
