I have discontinued my automatic renewal because I haven’t used Avast most of the year! My anti-virus program is AVG, recommended by my son-in-law, who sets up computer networks for the U.S. government! Avast makes it too hard to ever access a human being, so obviously they have no time for customers, who are human beings. It was also like pulling teeth to end the automatic renewals, which I found to be very disgustingly manipulative, as if I should give up and just keep paying for zero contact about my change to AVG last year. Companies who need to pull such dirty tricks are not worth my business.

Nowadays automatic renewal isn’t selected by default anymore when purchasing Avast.

So he doesn't know (enough) about security to give a good advise. Best av's are avast and Kaspersky.
Avast makes it too hard to ever access a human being, so obviously they have no time for customers, who are human beings.
I sure hope the customers are humans ;D But what is so hard about submitting a ticket? Submitting a ticket = contacting a human being from avast.

It is not manipulative at all. Just follow the instructions as stated in the FAQ. It is really easy to do.
Companies who need to pull such dirty tricks are not worth my business.
avast isn't using "dirty tricks" at all.

For example my Order Portal for Avast Cleanup does not have a “Manage Subscriptions” button and when you send an email to support@avast.com you will get a reply with the following telephone number +1 866 951 7679, which does not take you to a human but makes you go through loops trying and in the end is useless. “manipulative” is very mild, more like fraudulent.
