Is there a way to set for automatic scanning?

I think you can only do auto scanning in the professional version of avast

sethm,
Correct. Scheduling is only possible from within Avast Pro, however, it is possible using the Windows Task Scheduler to activate Avast exe file
Search the forum for specific instructions.

I have build 459.
I did not find the ashQuick.exe - I did find a aswQuick Module. Will that work?

Well looks like aswQuick Module is aka ashQuick.exe.
But I am not getting the task to work.
The run name is
“C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4ashQuick.exe” C:
I only want to scan the hard drive.
Do I need the colon? do I need to enter a '' (C:) as well ?

That looks like the correct run line, however see this current thread for an idea of how long it might take to run…

If you’re finding that the task doesn’t run, then look in the task scheduler to see if it gives you a reason why… I notice you’re on XP and there are some complications with XP if you’ve not got a password set up for scheduling a new task. There’s a box you need to check near the end of the wizard to open up ‘advanced properties’ once you’re done. When that happens you need to check another box to ‘log on current user’, (or something like that. )
It might not be the problem you’re getting, but it is a very common one.
I really suggest you use the avast screen saver module.
You will be able to run while you’re not using the computer, the scanning will restart where it was left on last scanning, you can configure it into Windows screen saver options (right click the desktop > properties).
