Automatic update not working - Avast 4.8 in win-xp sp2.

Hi there!

Well, I am mostly sure this question should have been asked before… but even though I did search for this, the questions I find were all different to what is happening to this computer.

I moved, so I changed my ISP. And noticed that Avast (installed was 4.7) ceased updating (the moving process was about 45 days).

Then I downloaded the last version from the web, re-registered it, and downloaded the Avast cleaner.

Unninstalled the old version of Avast,
Ran the avast cleaner,
Rebooted,
Installed the new version,
Rebooted,
Registered with the key got by e-mail.

This solved the problem that I allways had (unable to connect http:/xxx not found)…

But Avast still does not seem to be automatically updating. I understand the process, and I know it checks for a connection every 40 seconds, but I the blue box and the sound announcement that before told me the virus database have been updated are not appearing.

If I use a rightclick and choose update, it works perfectly. So there is no connection problems, also checked my ping functions good.

I am using comodo firewall, but Avast is allowed in it…

Any ideas?

did you already check your settings?
(rightclick A-symbol → settings → choose ‘Update’ in the left column)

is the update set to automatically?

if you click details - is it set to normal or still?

It is Avast-Home edition.

Right clicking there is no ‘settings’ option.

I have to start Avast, then go to menú, then setup.

Update option is set to automatic both te database and the program.

There are no ‘still’ options that I could see…

Sorry, forgot to say that. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for reading, hope we can know what is going on.

Program settings should be there.
There are two tab of settings to configure: Update (Basic) and Update (Connections).
Does the manual update work?

Yes. I am updating it manually, but sincerely it was much better when the automatic update was working.

Sorry, I am using the spanish version and I was looking for ‘ajustes’ that is the translation of ‘settings’, but it has been translated as ‘Configuracion del programa…’ sorry.

I checked it, and yes. Both options are set to ‘automatic’. Details show it is configured to ‘normal’, all boxes checked.

???

Sure. If manual update work, the automatic should work also.
How do you connect the internet? Dial-up or permanent (DSL). Did you set this way into Update (Connections) tab of settings?

Solved.

Someone blocked one of the modules of avast in Comodo Firewall Pro. I simply deleted the rule, and when comodo asked again, I allowed it and now it is working.

Sorry, I didn’t check the firewall in deep.  Thank you very much.

You’re welcome. Feel free to come back any time you need help or just to change experiences 8)
