automatic update problem

Just had a look on internet and found a program called Winsock XP fix and wonder if it might cure the seemingly insolvable problem you are having. Seems to have helped some people with different degrees of internet connection problems. (see the 38 user opinions, mostly favourable).

Although the site says “Added Nov 07 2003” people seem to be using it recently,

Sorry, just re-read thread and see you have Win98SE.

Yes, and I’m not having problems with the internet at all, just avast.

What is your firewall?
Does it allow access for avast.setup?

do i really need to repeat this again?

no firewall.
no proxy.

I know you have no problems with your internet connection.

I mentioned the program because (looking at the 4th user review, Ken Stock) he seemed to have problems with particular pages which I assumed might imply his internet connection was generally ok (like you). I just wondered if a particular registry corruption could be causing you to have a problem connecting to avast for download.

Actually, having just re-read his review he seems to think it works for Win98SE too.

Obviously ;D bye

if you had bothered to read the previous posts, i had already answered that question

I did, I missed it, simple as that, which I would have thought was obvious.

Rather than waste your time with the “do i really need to repeat this again?” comment and simply left out that line (as a sarcastic comment it doesn’t contribute anything helpful).

So as I said bye ::), I won’t waste any more of my time or yours.

my whole experience with tech support has been a waste of time. no one can figure out what’s wrong, the person trying to fix it via email flat out gave up

It worked, then it doesn’t work. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled, I’ve played with all the settings I’ve been instructed to play with. It still doesn’t work.

try to repair avast installation this may fix most of problems .to repair avast installation

controlpanel—>AddorRemove programs and click remove a dialog box will appear

scroll down to repair and then click next to start repairing of avast installation. hope

this will solve your problem.

thanks

Just for info., when I had the problem, trying to do the repair was a waste of time, because in order to do it, the first thing it seemed to do was to try and connect over the internet, just as when trying to do an update, and of course it can’t.

Ok, I tried that, it said the program was successfully repaired. We’ll see what happens next.
