Automatic updates and proxy problems.

Hi all,

I do have problems updating avast! 5.0.499. I use Win XP, and IExplorer 8.

I do use avast in 3 computers, all of them with similar configuration.

Until now I was using Avast! ver. 4.8. First problems appeared when configured IExplorer LAN connection settings to connect via a proxy (Tools>Internet Options>Connections>Lan settings>Use automatic configuration script>check and typed the proxy URL).

Since then, automatic updates stopped working (“proxy authentication is required”). The problem persisted in that computer even when configured back to the original proxy settings in IExplorer. However, I still could update manually, so I kept going on using that option. The other two computers update with no problems (never configured proxy settings in them).

I have recently updated to avast! V.5.0, and still can’t update automatically. The worse thing is that manual update also stopped working.

I have been trying to update with the proxy configuration activated, or without it, and even configuring the proxy parameters in avast! Settings>Updates>Proxy settings section, with no results.

I am probably missing something obvious. ??? . Any advice will be welcome.

Thank you in advance!

Nope. :-\ I have completely uninstalled avast!, rebooted, and reinstaled from your link.

When manually updating, still reports “Error HTTP server returned error 407 - The proxy needs authentication.”

As far as I know proxy is not configured in this PC. Anyone can suggest how to make sure that the proxy is not configured anywhere?

Thanks.

Sorry I refloat the subject,

Is there any way of updating by downloading and executing an exe file from Avast!? ???

I will greatly appreciate any comments about fixing this problem. :-[

Thank you in advance.

Yes, here’s the link: http://www.avast.com/download-update

Look for LAN settings in your internet options, remove proxy there, if entry is present.
Adjust avast to direct connection, if you prior entered a proxy there.
