Two weeks ago I was on dial-up and Avast worked fine - always notifying me (almost daily) of updates being made on my computer. This wonderful big voice on my computer told me “Avast database has been updated.” :-*
Then, I switched to cable connection and I am no longer getting notified, so I’m worried that the updates aren’t being made. The little blue “a” ball keeps spinning, so I think everything is working, but just concerned about the updates.
Thanks for the tip. I did as you suggested and find out my version is 0431-0. Clearly, the updates aren’t being made. This is reasonable to me as I changed from ISP Earthlink to Comcast cable and the old version of Avast was downloaded while on Earthlink.
Based on this, is it best to just download the software again or should I delete the old version first then download the new?

ust do an update there’s nothing wrong with the program you just have to update.
Enjoy comcast feel what it’s like to fly on the internet. It’s a whole lot different than dial-up.
Or wait at least 4 hours. If Avast is working correctly it should check for updates automaticly every 4 hours. This is standard and can be changed in the ini file. If it doesn’t, something is wrong.
Thanks to all of you - I found the problem. I reran the setup email wizard and found the setting was still pointing to earthlink on both smtp and pop. I’ve changed those to Comcast and an automatic update occurred.
I hate to spoil the fun, but smtp/pop are for mail only and have nothing to do with the updates for Avast and the vps. I sure hope everything is ok now. Keep an eye on it and lets us now.
Don’t forget another option – you can manually start a check for updates (right-click the icon, or it’s accessible several ways if you have the interface open) any time even if you’re set to auto-update. Just make sure you’re set to “always connected”, as Eddy pointed out in his earlier reply.

Your welcome. In the Off- Topic Forum there is even a post just for the ladies. They called it the powder room. I’m sure they would welcome a new face.
