this report makes me dissatisfied… avast was previously saying tat its detection rates were less becaus it ll hav lesser false positives…however in the test avast and avira showed up with same no of false positives but avira has 99% detection rate…how can i convince myself to stay with avast without switching to avira??
The AV comparatives feb 2010 test have been in the forums already, so I suggest you check those out (may be in the General for avast! Free/Pro/Suite forums also.
I can’t possibly convince you of anything, other than to say this tests only one function of an anti-virus, on-demand scans and not other aspects or resident protection. Unless you pay for avira, you will lose a lot of the shields that come with the avast free version that don’t come with the free version of avira.
You also have to consider your own personal experience the two detection rates aren’t so far apart to be hugely different in normal day to day use of your system. The one major shield that fights against one of the most common attacks the avast web shield (hacked sites and drive by downloads) doesn’t have an equivalent in the free version of avira.
So as you can see the choice has to be yours based on your needs (what shields email. p2p, web shield, etc.) and also your personal experience.
Ye of little faith, the web shield can block sites that have been hacked which would otherwise redirect you to a malicious site and the usual drive by download. This and the Internet are without doubt one of the most common methods of infection now.
I told you I wasn’t going to convince you of anything that is your choice make up your mine and act accordingly; I certainly am not going to waste any more time trying to convince you one way or another.
I have been using Avast for years even after my system crashed once while installing(first version of avast5)…i wouldnt switch to Avira, because i have such a good forum to help here, and a place to voice my views…hope one day im fully convinced ;D ;D ;D
