AV Comparatives: Summary Report 2010

They said:

It was never closer and difficulter to decide than this year!

Based on the awards given by AV-Comparatives during 2010, a number of programs had such good overall results that it was impossible to separate them fairly (see overview on previous page). Although several products were qualified, we wanted to name only one Product of the Year. In order to do this, we had to use criteria other than just the overall test results of the year. We decided to give the award to the program that has made the most progress relative to last year (in order to motivate all manufacturers to keep improving their products). On this basis, the 2010 AV-Comparatives Product of the Year award goes to F-Secure.

I hope that avast1 IS disable Windows Firewall automatically in the upcoming release program updates.

Avast was criticized for that.

Why should they disable it when the avast firewall was designed to work with the windows firewall enabled. I guess they didn’t understand that little point. A lot of time was spent at the MS Redmund Campus by the avast team getting this compatibility right.

Anyway, if you’re not using ipv6, you can disable Windows Firewall if you’re using AIS. I do

+1

Really that I not find the approach of having two firewalls on at the same time. This cause conflicts, and Windows says it.

No, not all the times.
Firewalls are different from antivirus.
Some firewalls can run side by side with Windows firewall. avast firewall can.

Ordinarily, I would agree that 2 firewalls running at the same time is not good.
The Avast firewall is a special case in that it has been engineered to work with the Windows firewall.
It is a unique situation created by Avast and Microsoft.
