A refreshing independent view of AV software and an unbiased fair (IMHO) review for Avast.

Well its qood indeed, but all reviewers forget lots of important things.
Advanced predefined commands on virus found are only available in Pro (like: Clean IF FAILED Move to Chest IF FAILED Interactive).
For Home Edition, there is only Silent Mode (Move to Chest).
Program download is fast no matter which edition you choose (fast servers) and registration is far from being pain in the ass. 3 registration steps that are completed in like 15 seconds,if you don’t have problems with using keyboard. That serial then works for 14 months.

If anyone can provide him this info it would be nice

I’m thinking right now why tons of people just publish wrong/incomplete/stupid things in Internet?
Why don’t they use their time more efficiently?
Tons of old, non-updated information about avast! is playing on the net…
It’s a bad game.

Why don’t Alwil publish more in its home page?
Why the others don’t come here to learn what they’re writing?

Tons of old, non-updated information about avast! is playing on the net...

It makes you think sometimes with the crass ass comments and reviews that make you wonder how these people can even find the Power button on a PC."IT SUCKS "quote, “don’t remove spyware”, “never took out cookies!” . I better start complaining, it hasn’t cleaned the house yet,or made my lunch and the dog wants a walk! Oh, it doesn’t do that? READ the instructions and the write ups this program SEARCHES for a very specific type of threat, it should be printed in bold writting on the programs.

People exspect all anti-virus programs to find exsacly the same as each other!!!, there should be some internet moderation on these sites to remove that junk, at least 80% of the reviews are now meaningless and unhelpful rubbish! not all of us here are smart like others.i have deslexia and have a very hard time with some things this was one of them, but i always read what the program does first, an so should everyone else.

But these settings are very hidden…

Not exactly. All advanced settings for all providers are controlled under Tasks submenu in Enhanced inteface.

But will be much more useful if this kind of settings would in On-Access Protection Control, as I already suggested…

Probably this is impossible as the feature is only for Pro version.
The On-Access Protection Control is for both one (Home and Pro). 8)

I don’t know if this is possible or not, but would be much direct and useful, in my opinion… It’s a problem of avast GUI…

Well, they give you the software for free… you can’t blame that there are differences into Professional version and Home one. I won’t call it a problem because:
1st: I’m just guessing the cause… I’m not sure.
2nd: If I’m right, the GUI will have ‘hidden’ options on Home version as automated actions are just in Professional one.

In a few words, for Home version users I think it won’t change anything if you have ‘greyed’ out options in the ‘right place’ (which I agree with you, will be better there) or you can’t see the options.

Some just want all for nothing. We should all be happy that we have FREE access to the BEST anti-virus software available. ;D

If someone is not happy with the few limitations of the free version, they should buy the Pro version. ::slight_smile:

I’m talking about the PROFESSIONAL edition!!!
The Home edition is excellent for a free AV…

Before you say something, try to read carefully want I’m talking about, please…

I noticed KOBRA was at your link espousing to one and all how wonderful his favorite product range was.
man does that guy need a life . ::slight_smile: should rename himself Moses

VaMPiRiC, sorry, I did not understand in the first time. 8)
Like I said, in the Professional, it would be better there (if it’s possible)

The GUI interface or general settings is the only thing that really bugs me about Avast! seems like things are really mis-matched and difficult to locate. I would suggest cleaning it up a little for Version 4.5, Norton’s settings and Mcafees are very simple.

I agree…

They should start to think a better way to set the GUI to be more useful and easy to understand…

If i would design the interface i’d move everything from Enhanced interface to the On-Access Screen and use multiple tabs instead of Outlook looking sidebar. So the difference between Home and Pro would be the number of these tabs (Home will lack most of them). This would be quiet easy to design and it would be in one easy accessable place. I’d also remove that Detailed and less detailed On-Access menu and replace it with only Detailed one and simply add one controller that would move all sliders at the same time to Normal or High sensitivity.

  1. I would agree, that as people need most help when setting up the on-access scanners, help should be available from there. I have mentioned this before but I believe the help file should be available from the right click (context sensitive) menu and from the avast icon in the system tray.

  2. The greyed out functions in the menu have as these forums attest caused confusion, with many posts ‘why can’t I select’ or ‘why is the xxxx function greyed out.’ Tabs that only appear for the relevant version would (I believe) negate some of that.

  3. The detailed on-access view should be always on by default ensures users have easy access to all on-access providers, not just the one last selected.
