Nice to see AVK 2007 top of the heap as it uses two engines, avast & Kaspersky ;D
Nice result though, room for improvement.
Vey good result but was this the Home version or the paid version.
There should be little difference as they both use the same scanning engine and signatures. The only possible difference being the Script Blocking of the Pro version.
As David said… it won’t have a difference on detection rate.
Another reason to prefer BitDefender as a second opinion (non-resident scanner) than Antivir.
AVK 2007 uses avast and kaspersky engine but I cannot find this anywhere on AVK 2007 website ??? Has anyone found an english trial of 2007 AVK?
Unfortunately there is no English trial.
You’ll have to do with a German version.
This is reported here: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=169077
AVK 2007
Two engines? a lot of resources usage. No, thanks.
Do you know that it uses a lot of resources or is this just speculation because of the fact there are two engines ???
Effectively it would be little different that two separate but resident scanners (1 AnitVirus, 1AntiSpyware), however I would imagine (speculation I know) there would be a deal of optimisation so these work well together without a heavy hit on system resources.
Andreas’ results haven’t received that much attention, except for a few publications: PCWelt, VirusBulletin, and Security.nl.So with the permission of Andreas, I’m publishing a more comprehensive look at the results.
First, some (slightly edited) commentary from Andreas:

avast! needs just 3 more percents for ideal spot … hehe
Its that last little bit that is the hardest to attain ;D
Although I cannot read German, it appears that AVG Anti-malware was the one tested since it seems to refer to Ewido anti-spyware as a part of it.
When that is included AVG is excellent, but the free version does not do nearly as well, and not as well as Avast Home.

Jerry
;)Hi all
new boy on the block
just moved from avg free and left norton after a few nasty trojans and a windows xp recovery disk.
avg free does not have the anti malware and if you download the antimalware which is very good you do not have real time protection after 30 days !!! ???
Real time protection is needed ;D
I would agree that avast is good so far and Having had problems with avg in that it could not remove some nasties and it is all kept in the virus vault.
The avcomparatives august test results due soon should be a good read and i hope avast does well .
As for norton well why do so many new computers come with it !!!
well done avast and keep up the good work and when will we see tests for all free antivirus companies?
also at av-comparatives avg anti-malware is tested. like someone said above, avg anti-malware scores quite much better than avg without ewido. i guess (= i do not know for sure, but it is very probably) avast would score better than avg free.
I’ve just removed a shareware version of Symantec products of my new notebook. No thanks, not even day 1.
The uninstall tools asked me: are you sure you want to lose the 60 day trial period. I did not hesitate.
Now Comodo (beta 3) and avast are running.
I’m an ex AVG and ex Norton. Shame on me, but I learned.
Welcome to avast forums.
Overall results from AV Comparatives are on the site. There are no percentages, just the overall ratings.
Sorry to say that Avast did not do as well as most others including AVGAM, but did again obtain an Advanced rating.
However, it is still a very good application, and I would not change if it has been satisfactory on my system.
Best,
Jerry
I don’t see anything on the site for a recent test, the last being May 2007 Retrospective/ProActive Test, No link for Aug 2007, still listed as coming soon.
Edit: Just saw the overview images, I will be nice to see the full report.
Hi David,
Go to the Comparatives link and scroll down until you are just above “Notebook Hardware Control.” There you will find the link for the overview as “You…find them here.”
Best,
Jerry
