AV vendors demand other testing methods!

Hi malware fighters,

AV-products are tested from time to time.
But AV-vendors are sceptical about the outcome of these tests
This is because a lot of these products protects in different ways,
than how this was done in the past, and because other forms of threats have arrived.

“I don’t think anyone believes to-day’s tests really shows how one product relates to another”
,says Mark Kennedy, developer at Symantec’s.

Various AV-vendors demand for new testing methods.
Symantec, F-Secure and Panda earlier this month schemed a new testplan.
The first preliminairy schedule should be there coming September, according to Kennedy.

One of the usual ways of testing AV-products is to launch viruses against a scanner and make simple scores. This is only reliable when products only work with signatures.

While signatures remain extrenmely important in testing, many AV products have expanded their lines of defense. “Many products use other ways to detect and block malware”, remarks McAfee’s Toralv Dirron.

A reason all time remembered to not rely only in avast signatures but try to get layered defense or, maybe, you could pray for Alwil team to improve (increase) the number of defending policies of avast (rootkit, heuristic, etc.).
