AVAST 17.1.2286 Interface Goes Off My Screen

I updated my free Avast today to version 17.1.2286 and my nice small interface when I open the program is gone. Instead I have a huge dark interface that completely fills my screen and actually goes beyond the bottom of my screen. The settings button is completely hidden somewhere below my taskbar at the bottom. Normally, you can access the ‘move’ feature to resize or move applications, but nothing works with Avast. Can you tell me what you have done to my nice small Avast screen and how I can get to see the whole page (in other words, resize it and make it smaller). Part of every Avast screen is cut off (hidden) at the bottom. Thank you

What size is you screen ?

1440 x 900 screen size

It should fit as it is below your screen resolution, I have netbook with a 1024X600 and it should fit in width but not height as I believe it is around 764 high.

In what plane is it too big ?

Which screen it is the main UI screen or the Settings screen ?
If it is the Settings screen, that screen is now resizeable.

Have you changed any of your display settings ?

Hi! I have the same problem as Chava 2. It doesn’t fit in height. I can’t access Settings. The laptop’s resolution is ok, that is not the problem. Please resolve this bug asap! Thank you.

The next program update should fix this problem.

A workaround until this is resolved, right click the avast tray icon, select about avast, from the next screen click General, that is the settings screen.

Thanks for the temporary fix to access the settings menu. Currently, the only way the avast screen can be changed or moved is ‘down’ from the top. Just for clarification, the sides and bottom are all fixed in place and cannot be moved or resized. Look forward to a fix for this. Making a mental note to myself…wait at least a month before upgrading the program in the future. I thought this version was ready to go live.

You’re welcome.

Yes, currently the main Home page of the avastUI 17.1.2286 is (I feel) massive and cannot be resized. But on my XP system 1920X1200 monitor the main UI page is only 1100X674, so I can’t say why yours won’t fit.

W10 (in a VM) set to 1024x768 and everything of avast is shown.
Not a single problem.

So, are they planning to fix this so it is not massively huge, completely taking up the screen, and make it so it can be resized? I am not the only one with the problem of the bottom of the avast screen hidden.

As Bob said in Reply #5 above, it should be in the next program update.

Thanks very much for the quick reply David. I guess I was looking for clarification that they actually recognized that there is a problem, as you and Eddy mentioned that it was fine for you.

You’re welcome,
Avast have acknowledged that it is an issue and are working on fix for an upcoming program update. Though no firm date has been given, but I would imagine that it wouldn’t be too long.

My thanks for everybody’s help!

No problem, hopefully you won’t have long to wait. In the meantime you have the workaround.

Just updated Avast to 17.2.2288 which was supposed to fix the interface screen: make it so it did not fill screen, make it resizable, make it so the settings was not hidden below the bottom screen taskbar.

Well, do you believe, ‘nothing’ has changed. The interface screen is still as described above. What exactly did they fix regarding the interface screen?

That is planned for 17.3 as far as I am aware.

The UI will not be resizeable but will fit the screen. The settings should remain resizeable as they currently are.

I too was disappointed to find this latest update did not fix the screen issue. I notice that there’s a big green button in the lower left corner that is half-visible and clickable. One might think it’s an “OK” or “dismiss” button. It’s only on my larger screen computer that I see that it’s really an “Upgrade” button. That’s a big problem.

When Avast eventually bothers to fix the issue, I hope the also fix the screen you see after updating, the one that has the (opted in by default) checkboxes for the foistware offer of Google Chrome. That window is also too big to fit on my 1024x600 display and you must blindly hit return, not knowing what you’re agreeing to.
