I started this topic January 2017 for this problem of the Avast interface filling and going beyond my screen. I’ve been waiting “three years” for the fix. Why can’t the Avast screen go back to the original smaller size? That one was perfect for “everyone”.
I just signed up for the paid version and still the same problem. I tried to access the Help screen because the program will not save any of my settings and the help page that popped up was totally beyond the limits of my screen, with no way to resize or move it. I could only get out of it by right clicking Avast in my taskbar and selecting Close.
Why is Avast not addressing this problem? How do I get their attention?
Thanks for the quick response. I have just upgraded to Premier Internet, so have the latest version, with the exact same problem. I see no change whatsoever.
Do the Avast technicians or developers monitor this forum? If so, how do we get this fixed? The interface “does not” have to take up the “entire” screen.
Are you still using the same system and screen ?
If so the UI should fit on your screen as on my laptop screen (1920x1080) it is 1262x842, it could probably be smaller but my screen scaling is at 125%.
If my screen scaling is set to 100% Then the UI is only 1010x674 so there user configurable things that can reduce or increase the size of your UI.
As an avast user I can’t speak for Avast, by the they do monitor the forums.
Thank you David R. Yes, I am using the same system and settings. My display settings have been the same for the past five years. This problem started when Avast updated my free antivirus program (have now upgraded to premium internet) and changed the nice small manageable interface to the whopping fill the entire screen (and beyond). There is something in the way they coded it that is causing this problem. I have no problem with any other program on my computer that fills the screen. They all stay within the confines of the screen so nothing is hidden.
I rather doubt it is in the way that they have coded it. I believe it is more likely the decisions taken as to what size the UI will be to cater for all occasions, e.g. Avast Free Vs Avast Premium Security, the number of components and functions in each (and for the short time that the UI may be actually in use).
Just by looking at the images, it’s obvious that scaling is well above 100%.
Set scaling to 100% to assure problem free scaling.
If you need to see something larger, simply depress the CTRL key and turn the Mouse wheel in the up direction to increase or, in a down direction to decrease.
You can also use the following key combos CTRL and + for increase - CTRl and - to decrease.
Thanks everyone! Changing the display resolution a little worked magic. I have had it set to a custom 135% resolution for five years, with no problems except for Avast. Reduced it to 125% and everything is visible now. Awesome help!
The display resolution really is crucial, when you have a relatively small (but high DPI) screen everything is a bit small (for many peoples eyes) and 125% seems to be the best compromise.
My laptop only has a 15.4" screen but a full HD resolution.
