I am encountering the same issue.
On my notebook PC (running Windows 10), NO programs would execute. All resulted in “the application was unable to start correctly 0xC0000005”. I could not run the Avast UI.
I had to enter safe mode (Start button, click on Power, shift-click on Restart and choose “troubleshooting” and “start up Windows in safe mode with networking”) and uninstall Avast.
I’ve reinstalled Avast from the Web site, and it’s doing it again! The Avast UI won’t start. I will be forced to uninstall Avast again (and leave it uninstalled).
I’ve enjoyed the free virus protection for years, so this is very disappointing.
