What Shield did you have to turn on scan for PUP’s I was running the previous beta 2286, installed over 12.3.2280 and updated from the UI to the regular release 17.1.2286 and scan for PUPs was still enabled on the File Shield.
The Web Shield was set to scan PUPs but that is the default setting.
It is intentional. We release exactly same build to release update channel once it soaked in beta channel. That, we believe, should improve quality in release update channel. And because these are exactly same binaries (you can bitwise compare them - no new build, just what is in beta become release) thus you see exactly same version number.
Updated over previous release build (12.1.2276) and my Vista machine froze after updating avast.
Had to force shutdown (manually initiate CrashDump) and rebooted. Got a black screen.
Ctrl + Alt + Del worked, so I rebooted my machine again and now working fine so far.
If do some of the devs want CrashDump after updating (Kernel dump) I’ll upload it to avast FTP.
I just updated to the new version. I noticed it installed avast! Identity Protection Service. I cannot see where I can disable this. I do not want Identity Protection on my computer. If it cannot be disabled could you please let me know how I can revert back to the previous version.
Thank You So Much for your help -Jack-
Updated via the GUI in two different computers with same issue. After the restart, many startup services and programs do not load with an error window. The main interface of avast do not load and the computer behaves unusable. Both computers are old ones, one with athlonX2, 4G ram, and another phenomIIx4 with 8G ram. Restored to old image and i will wait for a new release.
obs: both computer with Comodo Firewall.
obs2: again the same problem. The last major software upgrade last years have the same issue. Thinking in stop using avast…
Throughout the beta i couldn’t really understand why the devs kept quick scan alongside the smart scan. Two things which are the same are useless IMO. The check for viruses of Smart Scan is the same as quick scan and is some less click away. If you don’t want to scan for other things than viruses, click on Settings → General → Smart Scan and you will find options to select exactly what you want per your needs.
