Today Avast updated automatically to 17.1.2286 (build 17.1.3394.0)
New UI is much longer than 600 pixel screen height.
No option to change Netbook screen resolution
No option to change Avast UI size.
So can’t access ‘Settings’ menu!
Please advise - any hacks?/reinstall Avast 12?(how?)/move to other AV?(recommends pse)
Not very bright guys! Devs/Beta testers asleep at the wheel?
…I’ve already trawled through the Avast 17 Beta threads and several mentions that new Avast 17 UI would be ‘too long for small screens’ (e.g. Netbooks with max 600 pixel screen height) during Beta testing of various Release Candidates… so IMHO Devs have had plenty of forewarning and deliberately chosen to ignore those of us with small screen?
I guess AVAST no longer want Netbook owners to use their product for some unfathomable reason? Pity.
I’m using the “AltWindowDrag” utility as a work-around to get to the bottom of the first Avast window and bring up the settings window - which you can indeed re-size.
Thanks for suggestions - tray icon ‘workaround’ will suffice for now!
I’ll look forward to proper ‘fix’ in next version with pleasure.
Kinda surprised this ‘howler’ slipped under the radar though? Having Beta tested for a couple of FOSS progs over the years basic UI sizing and accessibility from all likely platforms and OS’ is pretty much testing 101 and shouldn’t even get to RC version? Hmm…
Thanks for also for ‘AltWindowDrag’ utility suggestion - will investigate.
IMO Netbooks are still great fun but slow Atom chip and Intel’s regrettable hard limit to max 2GB Ram really needs lightweight, minimal AV. Avast previous version was just right.
The main screen cannot be resized. I spoke with AVAST and that is what it is according to the support person. There is at least 1 sub screen that can be resized. Your only option would be to change your "personalization settings.
