Unlike you, Kabster, I don’t have a problem with the system freezing.
I just can’t make the program run.
Considering there are millions of programs, it’s always probable that there will be
some that don’t behave well together until the conflict’s have been worked out.
I’m sure that’ll also happen for this conflict.
I don’t use WinDVD so for me, this isn’t urgent.
I’m sure that those that do use the program, this is extremely important.

Well… system freez is bit exagurated since i can get it right again just by loggin off and on …
But i cant use windvd too…

So, u say nothing freezes … so u can shut down windvd application window on your desktop …?? Or doesn’t windvd even appear before u when u start it up … which of the two is it ?

In my case windvd starts alright but then it freeez… but wait now that i come to think of it …
Windvd always disables my windows earo feature … after it starts… and at that point the application crashes while avast is running in the background…!!!

Its plausible that this problem is an combination of the both windvd and windows earo ??? hmmm… but then again … my windows earo is alway enabled by default and that doesnt seemed to upset avast …

Maybe going from earo to basic does !!!

oh well…

no use to break my head about it … its clear avast has some bugs to deal with !!

cheers,

I only get the Splash screen. The program itself never opens.
If I select a file assigned to WinDVD it also never starts just see the splash screen.

ah… but bob i see why the application behaves differently on ur system… its because of that splash screen… you can disable that splash screen in windvd…

And that splash screens happend to be turned of in my case…

Mayhap, thats why i probebly get to see the window from windvd !!

Try and turn of the splashscreen in safe mode perhaps !! since you cant do anything in windvd because of avast !!..

EDIT: Bob… you are using WINDVD PRO 10 are you ? NOT windvd 11 or later ?
Iam asking because i dont get an splash screen in windvd 10 and there isnt any option to turn such an thing of in windvd 10…
Therefor you should get to see the window from windvd 10 application when u load it !!?

weird

cheers,

I can’t access the program since it never opens in regular mode and,
I can’t make changes in Safe Mode because WinDVD doesn’t open in safe mode.
I assume because it’s unable to load it’s needed drivers in safe mode.
I booted into safe mode shorty after I had installed WinDVD in hopes of being able to block avast!
and then run WinDVD without success because WinDVD doesn’t run in safe mode.

as Avast 2014 doesn’t support OS lower than WinXP SP3 we had to create an update of v8 that will check your system compatibility - 8.0.1500 (aka 9.0.1500). If your system fulfills the requirements you are seamlessly updated to 9.0.2006. There is no way how to “show” immediately the final version 9.0.2006…

Have you tried removing avast! with the removal tool, removing WinDVD,
the reboot, re-install WinDVD, reboot, reinstall avast! reboot and then,
see if there’s any change ???

Could you zip and send us your logs? It would help to analyze why the service isn’t running

Hey bob,

Rest asure, from experience i can tell you that windvd also starts in safe mode…
But again, avast might affect safe mode aswell you seee !!

err… by the way… are you using windvd pro 10 ?

if so , which update revision are u using ?

mine is up to date and is version 10.0.6.104.517159 ( for Corel )

cheers,

I’m using the 30 day trial version simply for this problem.
I used WinDVD many years ago.

Can you try what I suggested in this reply:
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=136785.msg1007412#msg1007412

lol bob… i actually have done that too… and check this…
I even have tested windvd prior to the avast install … and ofcourse windvd worked like an charm untill i installed avast … BAM… .same mayhem !!!

And disable features in avast defense didnt help either … hell, even disable avast its shields didnt work, nor adding windvd to all and i do mean ALL EXCLUSION LIST from all the different protection services that avast uses…

i.e webshield, fileshield etc ;… !,
Go FIGURE , someting about AVAST is serious AFOOT !???

So u are using Windvd 11 bob ?

Ah… and with windvd 11 too avast has issues lol ???

wOw … iam baffled …

EDIT: yes bob, install … Uninstall … install and time and time again wont just solve this matter.

Again, windvd WORKS just GREAT AS LONG AS AVAST 2014 ISNT INSTALLED !! therefor, AVAST needed to BEE UNINSTALLED ASAP in order for me to make use of my favorite dvd software player again

A problem for Avast to tackle. I’ve already alerted a moderator.
As I mentioned earlier, it isn’t critical for me since I don’t use WinDVD.
I will however leave it on my system to check on resolution progress or,
as a reminder that the fix is still needed.

On a side note, i have used avast for an long time now and this is the first time i have to uninstall it in order to get some other application that avast has broken to work again !!?

But then again, it woudn’t surprise me if avast woud have caused many crashes (bsod and others) while i wos watching videos, or playing games … yes games that do not seem to crash anymore since i have uninstalled avast …

You see my point !!??

And iam not trashtalking about avast, iam just making observation !!!

You have your opinions, I have mine.
Since there isn’t anything that I can do, I’ll wait to see what happens.

That sure makes things interesting isnt it hehe ::slight_smile:

And yes, all we can do is playing the waiting game and hope for an better tommorrow ;D (wishfull thinking)

I have had the new release installed for a few days now and it is running sweetly with no issues.Im perfectly satisfied with this version.

OK…question…

I know from this post below that Avast prior versions could be run with Windows 7 Defender.
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=38283.0
But this version comparison from Avast for v9 shows it to be A/V AND Spyware/Malware
http://www.avast.com/en-us/compare-antivirus
I’m running W7 64bit with V8 now (waiting for v9 to be more stable) with WD…both real time, both have nightly (different time) scans.
My fallback is to MalwareBytes (not real time) for scan if something is missed by above.
I know Windows 8 “Defender” is not same as Windows 7 and should not be used with Avast…the rule of thumb is one A/V + one MW/Spyware is Ok. However, with Avast V9 is this now both A/V + MW/Spyware (?)…so in other words do not run WD in W7 ?

Thx.

If you have Avast 2014 installed you don’t need/want another Anti virus.
Avast protection is highly effective, efficient and strong.

Love the new UI  Fresh and clean

Thanks avast team
