Avast 2014.9.0.2021 and IE

I recently updated my Avast! Internet security to version 2014.9.0.2021 via the GUI, and since then my Internet Explorer crashes every time I open it, rendering it unusable. It doesn’t even stay open long enough to load the home page, let alone adjust any settings. This is on my primary computer.

On my second computer, I did the same thing, only this time IE still works for the most part, but it is constantly asking if you want to save stuff, even the webpage, as if it were something to download.

Both computers are running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and IE 11. The only change to both computers just prior to these issues was to update to the newest version of Avast, so that is why I am looking for answers here and not with Microsoft.

Any assistance regarding this matter would be appreciated.

It does seem like the add-on is the culprit. IE worked fine when I started it in InPrivate mode, which prevents add-ons from running. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a security add-on if you have to disable it in order for the browser to work.
