I’ve been an Avast user for ages, and since the upgrade to v9 (2014), my system performance has been awful. Vritually anything I do (new browser tab, copy file, run anything else), it causes massive slowness - to the point that music playing in the background is distorted.
Was looking to find out how to go back to v8. I can still use my license, but I can’t find where to download the old version from avast’s site. I can get it from a third party site, but I’d rather not do that.
Anyone know where the DL for the last version of v8 is on Avast’s site/
The older setups are never on avast server.
You can trust these: http://www.filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=feed
Although, better than downgrade would be troubleshoot what is wrong…

You’re probably right about that, but I’m not sure where to begin beyond trying the old version and seeing if the same problem is there.

Are you sure it’s worth the effort?
There are several incompatibilities between Avast and Windows 8.1. Actually, between Windows 8.1 and pretty much every software out there right now, if I may
In your case, I would uninstall Avast 9, stick with windows defender for a while and then go back to Avast when people figure out how to make the combination run smooth once again

Hmm. That’s an idea I didn’t consider. I might give that a go for a few days and see if I still have the problems vs going back to Avast 8. Tkx for the idea!
Hmmm… In fact, avast! is running without a problem in my Windows 8.1… Which are these “several” incompatibilities?

Need to also consider what other software users have on their windows 8.1 machines. The OS is not always to blame for incompatibilities.
