When Avast 2014 is installed I can not create new power plans within Windows 8 or 8.1, I am presented with the error “Windows can’t save some of your changes to this plan’s power settings. Access denied”. This error completely disappears when Avast is uninstalled. Please fix this as soon as possible!
Avast Version: 2014.9.0.2006 (Latest as of this post)
Windows Version: 8.1 (Blue)
Thanks in advance, and if further information is needed please let me know!
A better description of exactly what you’re doing to get the error would help.
I’m not getting any errors when I make a change. It saves the change without a message.
Have the same ‘Accessed Denied’ problem.
When I got out of Power Options and came back in, the 3 new ones I tried to create while testing showed up - all with the ‘Balanced’ name they were based on!
However, was only able to delete all but one of the extra ‘Balanced’ ones I created. ???
I have just reloaded AV 2014 twice as I can’t get access to any of it! I can see its working in the background when I open up Prolasso, but nothing more than that! What is Avast going to do about this as I need access to the GUI interface.
I’m not going to go out on a limb and say that Avast 2014, while pretty, is a complete and utter failure for these reasons…
[ol]- It seems very little testing went into this version, 90% of the time the service fails to start.
Avast 2014 blocks known applications, and most Java apps.
Following troubleshooting guides, I was directed to uninstall Avast using their “Uninstall Utility” then preform a clean install of Avast. Let just say for some unknown reason it prevented all my USB devices to start at boot, including my keyboard. Oh, also the on-screen keyboard stopped working. The only way to fix this was to then again uninstall Avast in safe mode…
I would honestly feel bad if this is happening to people who have little knowledge with computers… Get it together Avast, because if these issues are not resolved, I will be requesting my money back, and you will loose customers. I work in the computer field, and have recommended Avast for years, and I’m sad to say I have been recommending Norton Internet Security instead due to foolish preventable mistakes Avast has made.[/ol]
since the last update, my antivirus had stopped working. it shows the following error-
"avastui.exe - application error
the instruction at 0x774301b8 referenced memory at 0x00000050. the memory could not be read.
Hello all,
Another Avast user reporting the same power settings issue. Have the latest version installed (2006, then 2007) on a desktop and laptop and both exhibit this same issue: ‘Access denied’, so I cannot create or change any power settings.
It also blocks CCleaner from being able to change/disable or delete start-up items, nor any scheduled tasks as well. I can still use ‘MSconfig’ for start up changes but it’s not good that the new version is adversely affecting legitimate other programs as well.
Removing Avast these problems go away, so its obviously the program that’s messed up.
The only other issue I have seen so far is that the desktop gadget refuses to load the green tick after a couple of restarts (on both computers), even after checking for all updates etc (the computer icon screen just remains blank). Have removed that gadget for now, but again, something thing else that’s broke in this version.
Both systems are running Windows 7 X64 bit, neither had any issues with Avast before the 2014 was released, and both have very different hardware. I have also done full complete uninstalls and reinstalls of the program, but problems remain the same, so I know this is nothing at my end.
