It’s really a pleasure to find people who think and try before coming with untested solutions, or worse with ruin answers like the AVAST support service who after taking control of my computer just explained that all the problem was coming from my registry which was a mess (brand new W8 installation…) and should be manually fixed by engineers they could recommend for a modest €89/h fee.
Thanks again for using your brain and share your conclusions (I loved the very cautious “it worked for me”, it worked for me too).
Btw ken.everett.sa, there is a safe mode in W8, not obvious to find, but definitively exists.
