avast 2014 installer and HTMLayout.dll error

Copy the HTMLayout.dll in the following directory : C:\Windows\SysWOW64

Worked fine for me

Yeah I also called Avast, and basically they told me it was a windows problem and that I should have my computer serviced every 2-3 months, but for the low one time fee of $179.00 they would fix my problem. I said I would like to get a second opinion before spending that much, then he pretty much yelled at me and asked me why I would want to give my credit card info to some technician over the phone. When I pointed out that was what he was asking me to do, he asked if I had any other question, “No, but I…”. That’s as far as I got he hung up on me! Will be finding another anti virus software program!

Just found this fix took me 20 seconds and everything works fine, no thanks to avast. Still will look for another internet security program, because their tech could not fix what it took me 10 minutes on the internet to find.

Step 1: Browse to the c:\Program Files\Avast Software\Avast\Setup
Step 2: Copy the HTMLayout.dll
Step 3: Browse to the c:\Windows\System
Step 4: Paste the HTMLayout.dll into this directory.

ok the last reply by luis was the solution that worked for me. thank you so much.

Hi,

I recently installed Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition on my computer (Windows 8) and this bug began occurring. I tried all methods (including copying HTMLayout.dll to Windows/System, Windows/System32, and Windows/SysWow64) and they all did not work, causing the message to still appear.

What can I do to solve this?

So I had this error and re-downloaded avast from one of those links and it worked, avast works now, only its the free version and not the Pro version that I PAID FOR. And whenever I try to log it in it says that my access has been denied. Please fix this, I have had avast for years and am getting fed up with it, might be looking for a new antivirus if it isn’t fixed.

I’ve tried copying HTMLLayout.dll into the Windows\System; Windows\System32; and Windows\SysWOW64 directories, rebooted, and still no bueno, installer won’t run (I’ve run both norton and avast clean utilities to ensure everything’s clean).

For me this started after uninstalling Norton that cam pre-installed on the system.

Unless you used the removal tool, you still remnants of Symantec on your system that need to be removed.
You can find step by step instruction to install avast in my signature.

I did both the avast and norton clean tools, both are off my system to the best of my knowledge. However that never resolved the error for Avast. For the time being I’ve just installed AVG.

Check out Avast Team comment on this thread and his temp solutions.
