Avast 2014 sudden service stop problem report

Today I find out something not right in my firefox brower, the Tools → Add-ons page was empty and one of the addon I installed: adblock plus didn’t block ads. Then I checked avast tray icon, I surprised to find out the icon status was red, it said my pc was unprotected and the service has stopped. I opened avast main window.

I clicked “Resolve all”, nothing happened. The service can’t start no matter what. The virus definition status on update window is also unknown.

I got a bit panicked, so I installed malwarebytes and scanned my pc, only found few PUP.

Then I read some posts here who seems also had similar problem, so I tried to uninistall avast but it hung on this step:

I even couldn’t cancel it.

After waiting for awhile, I restarted the PC and got another surprise, avast worked as normally. So what really happened here? I thought malware managed to intrude into my pc and disabled avast service.

But anyway I still uninstalled avast and reinstalled with new one.

The easier solution would have been to do an Avast Repair first, then reboot. Sometimes too, a glitch can happen, and you can wait for the next virus definition to be released, reboot, and it is revolved. When all of these fail, then you uninstall using the Avast Uninstaller Tool and reinstall.

I’m glad things are now working for you. Let us know if you have any further problems.

Surely I will let you know if something happened. I think this is the first time I meet this problem.

Really, this thing shouldn’t happen at all. Service is completely dead and no protection at all? This is madness! I was lucky no malware got my pc at that time.
