What exactly happens if a user has set Web analytics for instance to Blocked on a particular web page or pages.
Does the company doing the analytics see a “Don’t track” returned from the PC, or does Avast block all response?
No response. Surely someone knows the answer.
If Avast! is simply issuing a “do not track”, then in my view this is offering little more than one gets by simply setting the “Do not track” in Firefox itself, and it is not clear how much if any protection that actually provides.
My understanding is that not all companies abide by “do not track” flags. The only secure way of handling the situation would be to block the return of any response.
It’s also interesting that any changes to the default settings, for example to block by default all Web analytics, will only be retained if cookies are not cleared when Firefox is closed, and I prefer to clear all cookies when I close the browser.
This feature has nothing to do with the failed Do Not Track “standard”. It blocks junk such as Google Analytics javascript from loading.

Avast! DNT feature does not rely on DNT http headers, which allows it to work solely based on user’s preference.
