Using Avast 2014 I have to turn off web shield in order to get java to load in pogo games. Listing the pogo site as an exclusion does not help. What else can I do?
I knew this was hard for me, but I figured you experts would quickly give me a fix. Or is this glitch in the new program?
I am sorry about your issues. I am NOT an expert, but will try to help you as much as possible with Avast.
First of all, please never shut down the web shield, as you are opening your computer to nasty bugs on the internet.
There is a Avast Repair option in the Add/Remove programs in your computer that would solve most issues with Avast.
Have you tried that, please? If not here are the instructions for it.
Click on “Start”, find “Control Panel” and click on it. A new window will open. Scroll down until you see Programs, click on it. Another panel will open up, you should see at the top Programs and Features, click on it and another panel will open up. Scroll down until you see Avast Internet Security, once you find it, right click it (hover your mouse over it will say Uninstall/Change). Once you click it another panel will be shown from Avast. Their will be several options for you to choose from. On the left side there will be shown the following. Update, Change, Repair, and Uninstall. Click on REPAIR and follow the instructions. This should fix any issues you have with Avast.
Please let me know if this corrects your issues.
If the problem returns after the Repair of Avast, can you try the option of “Scan traffic from well-known browser processes only” (Web Shield settings)?
I have the same issue. Some of Pogo’s games are java-based, and some are flash-based. No problems at all with the flash games, but the java games will not load unless I disable the web shields on Avast. Is there a way to get around this? I don’t like disabling my web shields, but I shouldn’t have to give up the site because of a bug, either.
Check to make sure that you are using the latest released version of avast! - 2014.9.0.2008. I believe most of the problems with java were resolved with that release.
This is actually a well known problem of avast. Users who are using Java based application or applets within the browser, fails to work in most cases. You can search this forum for the problem. Unfortunately, you won’t find any solution to this. Instead of going for all those repairs you may try these (which may or may not work for some):
-
Make exclusion to the website in global exclusion list (You’ve tried this) : Didn’t work
-
Go back to version 9.0.2007 or apply the patch (ashWebSv.dll) provided by avast (http://public.avast.com/~rypacek/patches/) : Some people reported to have got the solution
-
Disable Avast Webshield : This is the ultimate solution
Its bad but it is the only solution if you are stuck with version 2008.
And a recent report from a user who had problem with java applets said, the new version 9.0.2010 RC2 worked for him. So you may try that or wait for its final release.
P.S: I am one such user who have problem with Java based apps! I am waiting for the new release
Your problem might be different than the rest or your java might work in different fashion or deploy different protocol but the symptom resembles the same. Hence the opinion. You may try if you like or contact the technical support!
There is a beta release now which solves that problem http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=142550.0
