AVAST 2015 Beta3 (10.0.2201)

Hi all,
I’m excited to inform you about AVAST 2015 Beta3 (build number 10.0.2201).

In AVAST 2015 Beta3 you can find mainly stability a performance improvements:

  • Improved malware detection in DeepScreen running on NG
  • IE plugin - fixed problem with continuous opening AOSP settings
  • Webshield - performance and stability changes
  • Browser Cleanup - fixed missing extenstion list for Chrome 37
  • SecureDNS stabilization
  • Improved registration to Windows Security Center
  • Many general performance and stability improvements

Known problems

  • Online content for GrimeFighter still in development
  • There might be problems with removing bad addons on Win8.1 in Chrome in BCU

We are really curious about your feedback on our new feature - Home Network Security. How many of you have a default or weak password on your router?

Features already introduced in AVAST 2015 beta1 and beta2:

• GrimeFighter Free
GrimeFighter will offer free cleaning of junk files and tuning of system settings. These tasks are performed by our Zilch and Torque minions. Other minion functions remain as paid-for features.

• HTTPS scanning
Now, we are able to detect and decrypt TLS/SSL protected traffic in our Web-content filtering component. We are using our own generated certificates that are added into the Root Certificate store in Windows and also into major browsers. This feature will protect you against viruses coming through HTTPs traffic as well as adding compatibility for SPDY+HTTPS/ HTTP 2.0 traffic. You can tune/disable this feature in the settings section.

• Home Network Security
Scan your home network for vulnerabilities (wifi status, connected devices, router settings, factory passwords, etc.). This is quite a new approach as we are trying to discover potential problems not isolated on the particular device only, but in the entire network of devices you use or connect to the Internet from.

• SecureDNS (this feature is active in the paid versions only)
We are introducing a new provider which guards against unprotected DNS/DNS hijack on a router/client (including unsecured networks, public ones, etc.).

• Smart Scan
Integrated all on demand scans into one (Antivirus, Software updates, Home Network, GrimeFighter). One scan, different results and recommendations.

• AVAST NG
A hardware based virtualization solution capable of running each Windows process in standalone safe virtualized environment (VM) and fully integrated to your desktop. Each process is executed in its own instance of VM, which means totally isolated from your other applications. This feature is now powering the Avast DeepScreen, resulting in better detection. The technology will also eventually power the Sandbox and SafeZone components (although it does not now).

Note: In this beta build, not all detections are 100% operable yet, so I wouldn’t recommend using the new DeepScreen for detection testing for now. It will be 100% operable in the next couple of weeks - we will certainly let you know when is the good time to start testing with your malware collections :).

Note 2: Avast NG can be installed only on physical machine, does not work in VM. It requires HW virtualization enabled.

• New Support System
Easy contact for paid users to submit a ticket with all info included automatically. Improved knowledge base for free users. Help is completely online and is more up to date.

• General bugfixing
This covers a lot of stability & performance changes in all components (but the main focus was traditionally on the network & engine components).

We would like to ask for your feedback, what is not working, what is your experience, whether do you see any performance problems,
connectivity problems, etc. There is a lot of new low-level functionality with an impact to the whole system, so we need your feedback
to tune everything for the final release. Thanks a lot!

It should be possible to install this version on top of your existing avast! installation (all settings should be preserved).

enjoy!

Should I uninstall and delete ng and shadow copies before applying this, I intend to upgreade rather than clean install, as 9/10 uninstalling avast messes up networking somehow …and ive only just got my OS set after a fresh install.

Just update via update button. New NG images will be created after first reboot.

Thanks, installed without a hitch, browser vm’s now open without me having to run as admin. Seems to of installed properly this time around, how do I know if securedns is working, I had to enable it after installing and restarting so I have no idea if its working or not. EDIT: Ah …securedns turns itself off when I restart the avast service, is it supposed to do that or is broke? Its like its missing from the enable all shields option. Im using google dns servers …would that stop securedns?

Still not fixed? ???
Shouldn’t there be a space between the words “device communication”? ???

Think that might due to just being the beta, our accounts are online and if that part hasn’t been updated to communicate with avast 15 then I guess that’s why it says theres no definitions or shields. Could be wrong though, i don’t really have a clue lol. Who know how to tell if securedns is working? EDIT: Looking through the ng folder in program data, I only have the ngbase and 1 initial vm now, before the update it always created 3, I don’t have a clue if this is how it supposed to be lol, in the log there was 3 created.

Yep …just as I thought, securedns keeps turning off after rebooting.

Thanks boe323 for reporting, we’ll look at this secureDNS default state.

L.

I have just dons a manual updated from the 10.0.2200 beta2 UI - I have Hardened Mode enabled and set to aggressive.

During the update the hardened mode triggered three times C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\Setup\instup.exe, avast emergency update executable and VisthAux.exe - I would have though these would have been added to the avast cloud so as not to be pinged by the Hardened mode.

The avast UI screen (settings) is not responding - windows security centre is reporting antivirus not found. Looks like I might have to do a hard restart as Alt+F4 doesn’t work either (self-defence stops killing avastUI.exe) and no way to disable self-defence.

Closing avast! interface while SmartScan is running doesn’t create a scan progres popup above the taskbar clock, while doing a Quick or Full scan does display that popup…

Hi Boe323, seems like SecureDNS is only incorrectly reported as stopped, when in fact it might be running. You can test with this site:

http://securedns.ff.avast.com/

Instaled Avast 2015 Beta 3, Home network scan showed all secured, no issues, all working well, despite PC doesn’t support NG for some reason, overall working all well. Virtualization is on in Bios, but NG not available, why don’t know, running Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit

Lukas, does Secure DNS work all the time, meaning DNS settings are changed to avast! ones in PC where it’s enabled?

Enabled it and http://securedns.ff.avast.com/ says still “We are sorry, but you are NOT protected”. Even restarted PC and tried with IE/Chrome. Same result with SafeZone. W7 64bit fully updated.

By the way, great job! Avast! is lighter than ever! Lets hope detection in tests catches up as well

…same over here, and it’s also not recorded in the “Scan Log”/“Scan History”.

I don’t even have avast installed right now and it shows I’m protected.

Actually, ipconfig /flushdns might also be required in some special situations.

Another way to test if secureDNS is running:
cmd /k nslookup securedns.ff.avast.com

What you should see (at this moment, might change in the future) is:
Name: securedns.ff.avast.com Address: 77.234.44.99

So which one is correct ???

is securedns ipv6 capable?, im using googles dns, and now its running through securedns and also bt’s dns servers, would like to get rid os at least 1 lol, cant remove bt’s. EDIT: I just checked, there not ipv6 capable, I would of thought in this day and age that they would be, ipv4 is running out of addresses, at least future proof the dns server. All these dns servers are whats probably slowing my web pages lol.

Hi, ipv6 resolves, AAAA records should be supported over avast SecureDns.
