Hi,
Can someone tell me, where can I download the full offline installer for Avast 2015?
I used it on my XP computer without problem for some time. Since I reinstalled my machine, I can only get Avast 2016, which causes troubles on my computer. Basically I had to reinstall my OS again, because after installing Avast 2016 my computer got frozen all the time, not even Task Manager opened - it totally messes up my OS. I don’t want to even try the 2016 version again, because I lost about 2 hours of work reinstalling everything after it messed up my OS (I couldn’t even open Add/Remove programs, that just froze/hang too - had to reformat my PC).
So I am trying to revert to Avast 2015 (which worked fine), but sadly I cannot get the old installer any more.
So, where is the Avast 2015 offline installer setup file?
Thanks.
I’m a software developer. I do have old versions of all my releases. The developers of Avast MUST have the old installers somewhere! Where is it?
Spent some time on it, no luck. All I found, is links to the ‘online’ installer, that just downloads Avast 2016 (which I had only very bad experience with).
Does this mean I should stop using Avast and look for a different antivirus program? Because the developers do not want to give me a file that I already had on my computer earlier, and was just working fine?? All users should be able to revert to an older, working version in case of a technical problem or failure.
Or else I’ll just stop using Avast and look for an alternate antivirus program… The 2016 version just messes up my OS (tried multiple times, don’t want to mess with it any more).
Latest Avast version they have in the database, is v7.0 from 2012. I actually have the offline installer for that, and tried installing it. Problem with that - it cannot update the virus definitions any more (lack of support I guess). So that means I’m pretty much left with outdated virus definitions…
Whereas, Avast 2015 DOES update the virus databases! In fact it’s still running on one of my computers, and it just updated the virus database today, no problems!
How crazy is this?? I cannot revert to a WORKING version of a software, that just works fine on another computer… The product is still supported, but does NOBODY have this offline installer any more?? I cannot believe it, one of the worst user experiences…
Why not solve the problem instead of reverting to a old version ?
avast 12.x works fine on XP with SP3 if the system has a CPU that supports the SSE2 instruction set.
I cannot “solve” the problem because I don’t even know what the problem is. The OS (XP SP3) just gets messed, windows freeze, Task Manager doesn’t open any more, cannot shut down my computer, Control Panel doesn’t work etc… Only reformat HDD / reinstall XP helped. This all happened after installing latest Avast 2016. So thanks but no thanks - I don’t want to spend another 2 hours reinstalling this computer…
The problem was probably related to the fact that Avast 2016 seemingly installed some kernel mode stuff (some KB windows update, don’t know the # number because I had to reformat the drive so I lost even the logs and everything). But that’s just a guess, since everything in the OS got messed up…
This I’m guessing based on the fact that I tried to ‘upgrade program’ from Avast 7.0, and the update got frozen after installing some Windows KB hotfix. Had to hard reset the computer. So even the program update from Avast 7.0 didn’t work.
The choice is yours ofcourse, but if you want help with the troubleshooting feel free to ask here on this webboard.
Without more information I ofcourse have to guess, but it would not surprise me if you hadn’t installed all updates/latest drivers before installing avast which caused the problem.
Thanks for the replies everyone, I managed to find and install an Avast 2015 version which just works fine on my setup, and has working database updates. Thanks again.
All I know, is the Avast 2016 update hang at the installation of KB970158, which is some Kernel-Mode Driver update for Windows. So that might have caused the issue, that’s all the information I have.
But anyways I successfully reverted to Avast 2015, and it is working fine now. So my problem is solved, thanks for the tips.

Hello,
yes be sure you have Net.framework 3.0SP2 (at least this one) updated on your WinXP SP3 , the Kernel-Mode Driver needed by avast after version 2015 2218 is installed only with this Net.Framework version.
nb:You could see if Kernel Driver installed in your manager (Hidden peripherals - non plug&play)
