Removed Avast 2015 10.4.2233 to try out Avast 2016, wouldn’t work installing over top, so I decided to try a clean install, removed Avast 2015 with Add/Remove programs, rebooted to safe mode, used Avast cleaning tool, rebooted back into normal mode, attempted to install Avast 2016 beta 2, crashed soon as setup opened, rebooted back to safe mode again, and ran Avast clear a second time, restarted again, still crashing.
Windows 10 Pro 64bit 10240 (official build)
8gb of ram
Clean install about a month or two ago
Windows Defender disabled–manually
all updates installed
Here is exactly the same: you’re not alone. I’m with Windows 10 64bits Preview fully updated and with Windows Defender disabled too.
Support package already submitted.
Guess for now i’ll get 10.4.2233 Downloaded, and Installed, and wait til 2016 final, and update via GUI from 2015 to 2016, as this way looks like not gonna work, can’t even Generate a support file/send one in sadly. Don’t really like Defender, so don’t wanna rely on that til 2016 final and ready to go, so guess will download 2015, reinstall that, redo some settings, and just wait til 2016 final
What worked for me was to Boot into Safe Mode,
Use Program and features, remove Avast, Reboot again into Safe Mode.
Once back in Safe Mode run aswclear. Reboot into Regular Mode and install Avast 2016 beta.
(I had tried the normal clean install and also lots of problems)
Tried Overtop of 2015, then rebooted into Safe Mode, and did uninstall, then rebooted again and ran Avast clear, tried again, failed installing 2016 beta 1 and now beta 2 on Windows 10 Desktop, Laptop XP had the same issue, but couldn’t generate support file, errored same as Desktop,
Then Laptop had trouble booting, so ended up doing a whole reformat on Laptop, and then installed it again, and worked on that one, Might try Bob3160’s steps again on Desktop early tomorrow or later tonight, and see if it works any better, This is kinda major issue that needs solved before less tech savy users are updating there Computers to version 2016.
I’ve did it twice also.
I’ve sent the support package (don’t know if it will be useful to debug) and they said they will start working this on Monday.
Only us, crazy ones, are messing with our computers on Saturday and Sunday
I’m Actually on my PC 7 days a week, doing something lol, sometimes messing with software installs, sometimes gaming, sometimes listening to music. Hope Avast gets this issue solved, and then it installs properly, i’m gonna try one more time later so hopefully I can send in also a support file, except mine keeps erroring out lol, so not sure if will be able to lol.
