I’m a proxy newbie (and Avast!) and I’m trying to make Avast! (antivirus updater AND e-mail scanner) work with Proxy+ on a client machine.
I’m able to open HTTP pages on the client machine but I can’t manage to make Outlook check the e-mail not update Avast!.
What do I need to do? Please, try to make it simple
…just to add something: I know that in order to receive virus updates correctly I need to configure the proxy settings in Avast!, but what about e-mail check?
I would go into the Programs folder for Avast and run the Mail Protection Wizard.
Make sure you have the correct SMTP and POP settings for your ISP available.
Check the box that says protect all my accounts.
Avast will want to reset the server address to 127.0.0.1 (your local computer) so that it can redirect email to itself to scan first.
This is normal and ok.
Hi, and thanks for your reply.
The program works fine without the proxy as I use a software router (which I disable when using the proxy).
The settings are per-wizard-selected so everything is fine there too (I guess).
Resuming: pages work fine, e-mail check no workie
I use Outlook Express.
The Proxy+ probably uses the same TCP ports as avast mail scanner. See the page ‘Manual setting of mail protection’, chapter ‘Cooperation with other software’ in avast help.
