Avast 4.5.523 and Wingate

I can get my email messages scanned by Avast Mail Shield.
I can send and receive email, but they don’t seem to be seen by the resident scanner, evven if I setup Wingat POP and SMTP services using ports 110 and 25.

Even looking at received messages headers I found that they haven’t been scanned:

X-Antivirus: avast! (VPS 0447-1, 19/11/2004), Outbound message
X-Antivirus-Status: Not-Tested

X-Antivirus: avast! (VPS 0447-1, 19/11/2004), Inbound message
X-Antivirus-Status: Not-Tested

Welcome to avast forums 8)

Which is your Windows? (98, Me, XP…)
Can you try the build 4.5.531?

More informations here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=9007

Thanks!

I’m running Windows2000 Pro on the server PC.
I’ll try beta 531 and see if something changes.

Hang in just a little longer. Rumour is that there will be a new verion of Avast released later today. (not a Beta)

And the latest Beta is 4.5.536 not the .531

sgiorgetti, do I understand it correctly that your mail server resides on the same machine? (I.e. you’re sending emails just to this local mail server, not outside)?

Then it would behave as expected, because by default, local-only connections are not scanned.

But connections outside (i.e. probably from Wingate to a remote server) should be scanned OK. Can you confirm this?

BTW You can change the described behavior by adding the following line to the [MailScanner] section of the file \data\avast4.ini:

IgnoreLocalhost=0

Thanks

This is my LAN configuration:
[PC with mail client] —> [Server with WinGate - LAN IP:192.168.0.1]

I’ve got Avast! running on every PC (obviously) and I sent mail from client to server with these settings (in the mail reader configuration):

POP: 192.168.0.1:110
username: mymail@my.domain#my.pop.server
SMTP: 192.168.0.1:25

With previous versions I’ve got to sent mail to Wingate and then to the Avast Mail Server, but now this doesn’t work anymore.
I suppose that Avast does a sort of sniffing on 25 and 110 ports, in order to detect incoming/outcoming mail messages.
Wingate has two own mail services, that got mail from clients and the sent them on the real mail server (usually a remote mail server on internet): I suppose that this is the step where Avast must come in, intercepting outcoming/incoming mail, but nothing works.

Server PC configuration:
Windows 2000 Pro
Avast 4.5.523

It’s better for me to wait for new official Avast release.

Thanks
