start > programs > Avast > help
It has all possible settings explained.
Also have a look HERE. A lot of information can be found in that thread.

Have you changed the settings in any way from the default?
Even with my settings on High, there is barely any noticeable effect on my system and yours has a much faster cpu.
‘Even when you are installing’ what?
If you have settings set to High it will scan all newly created/modified files. What are your settings.

Well, actually, his CPU works at 1.5 Ghz (AMD Sempron 2200+) and less RAM (half amount) than in your PC DavidR my friend… See here:

You can’t compare the clock speed of a Intel and a AMD cpu and say that one is faster. The AMD has a entire different way of handling instructions which make them capable of handling the same amount of instructions/sec with a lower clockspeed than the Intel cpu’s.

Haha, this is funny Eddy… what are you talking about ? AMD Sempron 2200+ that Johnisaac owns, and AMD Duron1.3 that DavidR has… where do you see Intel in this story ? Broken cups ?
The key word is AMD…

And the keyword is also different architecture of the cpu.

Still nothing to do with Intel… speeds of those two in general are very, very, very similar… I wouldn’t bet on any of those two, and both are still pretty good deal.
