I been trying to get the Avast modules to work and none of them will NOT EVEN 1 lol. When u try to start them it just says the operation cannot be compleated. with allso saying the resident task cannot be found. I have tryed reinstalling it and no go whot so ever.
It would help if you gave us some more information like:
Have you ever had or have another antivirus installed (if so which and how did you remove it)?
Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, avast! Anti-Virus, Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
If that doesn’t work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot. I know you said you tried that but did you reboot between.
Well 1st cheers for your reply :). Well the computer has had Norton on it and Mc Affe at some point. I have gone thought the reg to delete any referance i can find on them both. Add\Remove was used to remove both of these programs. Tryed repair and still the same did nothing whot so ever. Tryed reinstall re boot and still no luck. the OS is Win98 SE Not Win98.
Believe us… it will be easier to start all over again using just one antivirus.
You’ll take much more time to get rid from the others - specially NAV - to install avast! correctly :-\
Then it looks like the same problem that besets many other users of NAV, even though you use the uninstall/add remove there are remnabts left behind that avast can detect and because of that avast won’t install all the components to ensure there is no conflict between two resident AVs (avast won’t know there is no actual program, but registry stuff).
I have Avast 4.6 (latest) running great on Win 98 and Win 98SE systems that once ran Nortons – so it can be done. As the others mentioned–run the Norton rnav2003 uninstall program … and then reboot, and install avast! It should work.
