Avast 4.6 problem with standby??

Hey,

something is wrong with my standby on my dell laptop. Recently whenever i put my computer on standby either by closing the lid or pressing standby on my keyboard, it will only be on standby for a few seconds and then start back up. This started on November 19th

I called dell, and it seems that they were unable to determine the problem. When he suggested to do a system restore, so i decided to restore it on November 16th. It was around this time that i did update to the new avast engine I believe.

When i did it and put my computer on standby, i finally worked. Or so i thought.

Once i lifted my lid of my laptop and waited till my computer started back up, and an avast pop up was there saying i should restart my computer so that the updates can operate better. So i restarted my computer. After I restarted my computer, i was curious to see if my standby would work. I didn’t. This led me to believe that avast may have a bug or something.

Can anyone provide any help?

It’s not easy to solve (or troubleshoot) shutdown and standby problems.
It could be the avast new version or it could be the interaction of it and some other program in your computer.
Did you change any avast! setting? Do you have a firewall in this laptop?
Are you using the Home or the Professional version of avast?

no i didn’t change any of the avast settings. everything is the same. and i am using Free Home version of avast.
