hmm…as far i read this looks like problem is in proxy…i will check my update settings…
Can you please try manually deleting the file C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\reboot.txt?
I deleted it and it still asking me to restart…btw new reboot.txt is created…
Is avast installed on a FAT32 or NTFS volume?
It’s installed on a NTFS volume.
OK, can you please post what’s in setup.log after 23:17?
Thanks
Vlk
Uh…i can’t attach .zip or .rar files and my setup.log file is too big (2.3 MB)…i will try to reinstall avast.
No… you’ll delete the log.
Please, save it elsewhere. You can use Alwil FTP server as a second way to transfer only big files. Upload them to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming (please, note that you won’t have READ access to the ftp server, just write - so you won’t even be able to see what you’ve just uploaded).
I am also having this problem. I reported it about 2 weeks ago. EVERY time I start my PC avast asks me to reboot.
Deleting the .txt file didn’t help. I have uploaded a Word doc (log file) to your FTP site as shown above. I didn’t know how else to do it.
Please let me know if I have to do something else.
Please try importing this registry fix http://public.avast.com/~forejt/Enable8dot3Name.reg (just click it), then invoke avast VPS or program update and perform the reboot when asked to do so. Does that fix the problem?
Thanks
Vlk
It didnt work…
Were you able to import the key and even by this way it does not work? Is it this what is happening?
Or you couldn’t be able to import the key?
I clicked on it and it seemed to work through fine. I d’loaded the new VPS and rebooted as asked…same thing happened.
It seems like many others are having the same problem… http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=28199.0
Hi all
Had the same problem yesterday. I ran Advanced WindowsCare V2 Personal and ccleaner this cured the problem
Buzzby
Could you please start regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager, select the value BootExecute and export it to a file? If you could post the file as an attachment here, I would like to check what could be wrong there.
In XP, if you press F8 when starting Windows and select ‘Last known good configuration’ from the boot menu, maybe the reboot loop is removed…
Same problem here. Is Avast! going to fix this bug?
